The diagnostic accuracy of point-of-care ultrasound parameters for airway assessment in patients undergoing intubation in emergency department —an observational study
ConclusionAssessment of the airway with POCUS may be helpful to the emergency physician when the clinical airway assessment parameters fail to predict difficult laryngoscopy as most patients requiring intubation are uncooperative. Assessment of the parameters in our study Pre-E/E-VC, tongue thickness, and hyomental distance can act as a promising tool for predicting difficult laryngoscopy in the emergency scenario. Topical Anaesthesia Using a Soft Mist Spray Device Allows Comfortable Awake Visualisation of the Airway via Self-Videolaryngoscopy in Volunteers
Conclusions: The Trachospray provided good, reliable, comfortable, and safe topical anaesthesia for awake videolaryngoscopy. This enables a direct visual assessment of the airway and may assist in making decisions regarding airway management for tracheal intubation.PMID:38276056 | PMC:PMC10821280 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60010176 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Untangling asthma, inducible laryngeal obstruction, and dysfunctional breathing in a competitive sportsperson
This case highlights three key points in managing difficult-to-control asthma; the importance of identifying and acting upon a discrepancy between symptom severity and objective evidence, the benefits of a structured multidisciplinary approach in improving outcomes, and the pivotal role of complex testing in the hospital outpatient setting. AbstractA young woman with historically mild asthma experienced worsening breathlessness and cough with competitive ice skating. Despite optimizing and escalating treatment for her eosinophilic asthma, and addressing known exacerbating factors, her symptoms remained uncontrolled and ref...

Neonatal intubation: what are we doing?
Conclusions: This neonatal manikin study identified three sections in the diagram of the forces applied during intubation, which likely mirrored the three main phases of intubation. Overall, the pattern of each section showed some differences in relation to the laryngoscope (direct or video) that was used during the procedure. These findings may provide useful insights for improving the understanding of the procedure. What is Known:• Neonatal intubation is a life-saving procedure that requires a skilled operator and may cause direct trauma to the  tissues and precipitate adverse reactions.• Intubation with a videolary...
