Dissociation of clinical, laboratory, and bone biopsy findings in adult X-linked hypophosphatemia: a  case report
We report the case of a middle-aged woman with clinically mild disease, relatively balanced laboratory values, but bone non-healing of the femur post-surgery. Transiliac bone biopsy revealed pronounced osteomalacia and severe deterioration of bone microstructure. Due to the lack of XLH-typical symptoms, the patient was not substituted with calcitriol and phosphate in adulthood. Thus, laboratory findings and radiological examinations do not necessarily reflect bone metabolism in XLH. Bone biopsies should be considered in unclear cases or prior to surgery in adult s with XLH. O  vos mendici medici.

Anticonvulsive treatment in autoimmune encephalitis: a  systematic literature review
ConclusionFew robust data exist on the particular efficacy of ASM in autoimmune epileptic seizures. While these patients generally seem to respond less well to ASM or surgical interventions, sodium channel blockers may have an additional benefit compared to other substances. However, levels of evidence are low and early IT remains the mainstay of AIE therapy. Future trials should address optimal ASM selection and dosing in AIE. (Source: Wiener Medizinische Wochenschrift)

After ultrasound and MRI imaging, fertility-sparing staging surgery was performed, and the diagnosis of an ovarian yolk sac tumor with positive malignant cells in ascites was confirmed. The specificity of this case is the tumor classification into stag e IC3 according to the FIGO and stage III according to the Childrenâ€...

Comparison of the efficacy of equivalent doses of dexamethasone, methylprednisolone, and hydrocortisone for treatment of COVID-19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome: a  prospective three-arm randomized clinical trial
ConclusionBased on the results, severe cases of COVID-19 treated with dexamethasone might have a  better clinical status at 28-day follow-up compared to methylprednisolone and hydrocortisone at an equivalent dose. Digital health —high tech or high touch?
SummaryDigital transformation in medicine refers to the implementation of information technology-driven developments in the healthcare system and their impact on the way we teach, share, and practice medicine. We would like to provide an overview of current developments and opportunities but also of the risks of digital transformation in medicine. Therefore, we examine the possibilities wearables and digital biomarkers provide for early detection and monitoring of diseases and discuss the potential of artificial intelligence applications in medicine. Furthermore, we outline new opportunities offered by telemedicine applica...

A  concept for adapting medical education to the next generations via three-staged digital peer teaching key feature cases
SummaryWhile the core principles of medical education remain the same, the students ’ socioecological backgrounds, values and learning requirements are constantly changing. Bridging the generation gap between teachers and students is a key challenge of medical didactics. To meet the demands of today’s classroom, we piloted a novel three-stage peer teaching and key feature con cept. First, an on-demand key feature video case was presented. Second a background video was launched, followed by a self-assessment tool. Third, a live case discussion webinar focusing on clinical reasoning was held. The contents were creat...
