Hemoptoe, thin-walled lung cysts, and spontaneous pneumothorax are features of metastatic cutaneous angiosarcoma
We present a  case of bilateral cystic lung metastases originating from cutaneous angiosarcoma (cAS) of the scalp in a 73-year-old man. He presented with hemoptysis and recurrent bilateral pneumothorax. The clinical, radiological, and histological features and a potential pathophysiological mechanism of pulmo nary changes in cutaneous angiosarcoma are discussed. Anti-MDA5 antibody-positive dermatomyositis with mild encephalopathy with reversible splenial lesion: a  possible rare association?
We report here for the first time the case of a patient with two rare diseases, namely anti-MDA5 antibody-positive dermatomyositis and mild en cephalopathy with reversible splenial lesion (MERS). (Source: Wiener Medizinische Wochenschrift)

Onychomadesis in a  COVID-19 patient
We report the case of a  67-year-old woman who developed onychomadesis on 9 of her fingers 2 months after recovering from COVID-19, with subsequent full nail regrowth after 4 months. The development of onychomadesis in COVID-19 is probably related to inhibition of nail proliferation due to fever, direct viral damage, o r an inflammatory process associated with endothelial damage and obliterative microangiopathy in the nail matrix area. Clinicians should be aware of nail changes and actively seek them out in patients with COVID-19. (Source: Wiener Medizinische Wochenschrift)

Anaphylactic reaction to carboplatin diagnosed by skin testing —a reliable tool in platinum-based immediate-type hypersensitivity reactions
SummaryImmediate-type hypersensitivity reactions (IHRs) to carboplatin (CA) are most commonly reported in ovarian cancer patients. A  54-year-old woman with stage IV melanoma suffering from metastasis in the entire right lower extremity was presented to our allergy outpatient clinic for diagnostic work-up due to an anaphylactic reaction with palmoplantar erythema, conjunctivitis along with facial erythema, and an incipient decr ease in blood pressure during a chemotherapy regimen with dacarbazine and carboplatin upon re-administration. A subsequently carried out allergological work-up with skin testing (ST) revealed CA...

Alopecia associated with dimethyl fumarate treatment for multiple sclerosis
SummaryAfter 2  weeks of treatment, a woman with multiple sclerosis treated with dimethyl fumarate developed alopecia. Considering the adverse events, the therapy was discontinued, leading to alopecia regression during the next 3 months. Although the precise mechanism has not been completely elucidated, glutath ione depletion or downregulation of aerobic glycolysis are considered to be potential reasons for hair loss induction. The incidence and mechanism of this uncommon adverse reaction to dimethyl fumarate should be further investigated. (Source: Wiener Medizinische Wochenschrift)

Giant cell epulis
SummaryGiant cell epulis (peripheral giant cell granuloma) typically appears as a  reactive benign lesion in the oral cavity in areas following local irritation or chronic trauma. Here we describe the case of a 45-year-old male patient who presented with the chief complaint of a large gingival mass in the anterolateral maxilla. There had been progressive growth within the past few months, with increased painless discomfort during mastication. The patient also reported bleeding during interdental cleaning. A full physical work-up led to the suspicion of giant cell epulis alongside other differentials including mucosal h...

Diagnostic difficulties in pediatric annular dermatoses
SummaryThe polymorphic presentation of annular dermatoses in the pediatric population renders them a  diagnostic challenge to the clinician. They include various distinct disease entities that can be vaguely categorized according to the age of onset. Herein, we report on a young girl with clinical characteristics of Wells’ syndrome, while histological findings favored the diagnosis of annular e rythema of infancy (AEI). Although morphological and histological similarities do exist, AEI and eosinophilic annular erythema (EAE) of childhood are considered as distinct entities in the literature. Wells’ syndrome (WS) is a...

Retrospective analysis of COVID-19  patients with Guillain–Barre, Miller–Fisher, and opsoclonus–myoclonus–ataxia syndromes—a case series
ConclusionAll patient groups displayed a  shorter disease duration if the onset of neurological symptoms occurred shortly after the COVID-19 diagnosis. In particular, both the OMAS patients with symptom onset concurrent with COVID-19 showed only abortive symptoms followed by a swift recovery. This observation would suggest different path omechanisms for immune-mediated diseases depending on the time of onset after an infection. (Source: Wiener Medizinische Wochenschrift)
