Diagnostic challenges, best sources, and future paths for diagnoses of Beethoven ’s physical and mental illnesses
SummarySignificant problems have plagued medical and musicological researchers who wish to understand the complexities of Beethoven ’s physical and mental health. The most significant is a lack of detailed information on the composer’s medical and mental conditions as they appeared and progressed. Though he consistently saw well-regarded doctors from around 1800 to his death, only one wrote a detailed description and only a few left information in the conversation books. Other problems are the limited medical knowledge about certain diseases at the time (such as the causes of deafness) and treatments with no or limi...

Histopathological progression of hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa
ConclusionOur observations coincide with the classical pathological studies on the progressive changes of HS/AI; however, in our specimens, the virtually normal skin peripheral to the fully developed lesions show seemingly initial follicular changes that suggest development error. This finding would support the hypothesis of combined mutation-induced epithelial differentiative defects and immunological derangement in HS/AI pathogenesis.

What is the significance of guidelines in the primary care setting?
SummaryMedical guidelines aim to ensure that care processes take place in an evidence-based and structured manner. They are especially relevant in outpatient primary care due to the wide range of symptoms and clinical pictures. In German-speaking countries, there is a  lack of current findings documenting general practitioners’ opinions and experiences regarding guidelines, their expectations and their views on what improvements could be made to increase the use of this type of evidence-based instrument in the primary care setting. Between April and August 202 0, a total of 3098 general practitioners were surveyed in t...

Mentored undergraduate operating room teaching during the orthopedic trauma curriculum —No evidence of gender differences
ConclusionPreviously published literature as well as our presented data indicate that the interest of medical students in starting a  surgical career can only be increased if negative influencing factors are reduced. This includes especially positive communication with medical students and in daily professional interaction. (Source: Wiener Medizinische Wochenschrift)
