Numerical investigation of acoustic cavitation and viscoelastic tissue deformation
Ultrason Sonochem. 2024 Jan;102:106757. doi: 10.1016/j.ultsonch.2024.106757. Epub 2024 Jan 9.ABSTRACTAcoustic cavitation and tissue deformation are studied by modifying a level-set method for compressible two-phase flows to consider viscoelastic tissue deformation. The numerical simulations performed using different shear moduli and bubble-tissue distances demonstrate various interactions between bubble and viscoelastic tissue, including inverted cone-shape bubbles, bubble migration, liquid jet formation, compressive and expansive tissue deformation, and tissue perforation. The bubble is observed to grow larger with increa...

Antibacterial effect of ultrasound and β-citronellol against Listeria monocytogenes and its application in carrot preservation
This study investigated the antibacterial effects of ultrasound (US), β-citronellol (CT), and a combination of the two treatments on Listeria monocytogenes. Results showed that US or CT alone did not show apparent antibacterial effect (0.02-0.76 log CFU/mL reduction). The combined treatment showed obviously inactivate effect of L. monocytogenes, the populations of L. monocytogenes decreased by 8.93 log CFU/mL after US (253 W/cm2, 20 kHz) + 0.8 mg/mL CT treatment. US + CT treatment also had a significant (P < 0.05) antibacterial effect on isolates of L. monocytogenes from three different serotypes. In this study, the da...

Mass transfer of microbubble in liquid under multifrequency acoustic excitation - A theoretical study
Ultrason Sonochem. 2024 Jan;102:106760. doi: 10.1016/j.ultsonch.2024.106760. Epub 2024 Jan 6.ABSTRACTMicrobubble's mass transfer under external acoustic excitation holds immense potential across various technological fields. However, the current state of acoustic technology faces limitations due to inadequate control over bubble size in liquids under external excitation. Here, we conducted numerical investigations of the mass transfer behavior of microbubbles in liquids under multifrequency acoustic excitations with different frequencies (in the MHz range), pressure amplitudes (in the range of several atmospheric pressures...
