Ultrason Sonochem. 2023 Dec 16;102:106733. doi: 10.1016/j.ultsonch.2023.106733. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEmodin was extracted from Rheum officinale Baill by ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE), and ethanol was chosen as the suitable solvent through SEM and molecular dynamic simulation. Under the optimum conditions (power 541 W, time 23 min, liquid to material ratio 13:1 mL/g, ethanol concentration 83 %) predicted by RSM, the yield of emodin was 2.18 ± 0.11 mg/g. Moreover, ultrasound power and time displayed the significant effects on the extraction process. Extracting dynamics analysis indicated that the extraction ...

Preparation, structural and functional characterization of corn peptide-chelated calcium microcapsules using synchronous dual frequency ultrasound
This study was conducted to prepare corn peptide-chelated calcium microcapsules using β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) as the wall material through an improved ultrasonic-assisted method. The structure, solubility, thermal stability, and in vitro gastrointestinal digestion of these microcapsules were thoroughly investigated and analyzed. The microcapsules were prepared using the following recommended conditions: a chelate concentration of 5 mg/mL, a mass ratio of chelate to β-CD of 1:8 g/g, and a synchronous dual-frequency ultrasound (20/28 kHz) at a power of 75 W, a duty ratio of 20/5 s/s, and a time of 20 min. These specific par...

Cavitation cloud formation and surface damage of a model stone in a high-intensity focused ultrasound field
Ultrason Sonochem. 2023 Dec 22;102:106738. doi: 10.1016/j.ultsonch.2023.106738. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis work investigates the fundamental role of cavitation bubble clouds in stone comminution by focused ultrasound. The fragmentation of stones by ultrasound has applications in medical lithotripsy for the comminution of kidney stones or gall stones, where their fragmentation is believed to result from the high acoustic wave energy as well as the formation of cavitation. Cavitation is known to contribute to erosion and to cause damage away from the target, yet the exact contribution and mechanisms of cavitation rem...

Structural, chemical and technofunctional properties pectin modification by green and novel intermediate frequency ultrasound procedure
Ultrason Sonochem. 2023 Dec 23;102:106743. doi: 10.1016/j.ultsonch.2023.106743. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe impact of intermediate frequency ultrasound (IFUS, 582, 864 and 1144 kHz), mode of operation (continue and pulsed) and ascorbic acid (Aa) addition on the structural, chemical and technofunctional properties of commercial citrus high methoxyl-grade pectin (HMP) was investigated. The chemical dosimetry of IFUS, monitored by the triiodide formation rate (I3-), demonstrated that the pulsed ratio (1900 ms on/100 ms off) at the three frequencies was similar to that of continue mode but IFUS1144 kHz produced more acou...

Ultrason Sonochem. 2023 Dec 21;102:106737. doi: 10.1016/j.ultsonch.2023.106737. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo achieve wheat starch acetylation (AC) with a high degree of substitution (DS), the acetylation process was carried out using various ultrasonication frequencies, including 25 kHz, 40 kHz, and 25 + 40 kHz. In the second step, wheat starch's ultrasound-assisted acetylation (UAA) is simulated using various approaches including the rheology models, non-isothermal reaction kinetics, and flow/acoustic modelling. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation solves the non-linear acoustic governing equation to dete...
