Reply to Letter to the Editor: The Use of Rifampin in Total Joint Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Comparative Studies
We appreciate your observations on our review summarizing the efficacy and safety of adding rifampin in the treatment of periprosthetic joint infection. In your Letter to the Editor, you raise important questions regarding the use of rifampin in periprosthetic joint infection. We attempted to analyze and summarize all available evidence; however, there remains a scarcity of literature regarding the timing and dosing of rifampin. As noted in our review, dosage regimens were varied and often not clearly reported. (Source: The Journal of Arthroplasty)

Letter to the Editor: The Use of Rifampin in Total Joint Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Comparative Studies
We recently read an article in the Journal of Arthroplasty by Kruse et  al entitled: “The Use of Rifampin in Total Joint Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Comparative Studies.” The authors reviewed the existing literature in evaluating and summarizing the efficacy and safety of adding rifampin to the standard of care in the treatment of peripr osthetic joint infection (PJI) [1]. However, we would like to make some observations on the subject. (Source: The Journal of Arthroplasty)

Reply to Letter to the Editor on “Obesity is Associated With Greater Improvement in Patient Reported Outcomes Following Primary Total Knee Arthroplasty”
We thank Dr. Riddle for the detailed review of our manuscript. The authors commend such a critical analysis of the peer-reviewed literature on the topic of obesity in the setting of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) through an expertly conducted PubMed search. (Source: The Journal of Arthroplasty)

The Fate of Unresurfaced Patellae in Contemporary Total Knee Arthroplasty: Early to Midterm Results
This study evaluated revision-free survivorship out to 8.5 years in a cohort of contemporary primary TKAs with patella-friendly femoral components and unresurfaced patellae. (Source: The Journal of Arthroplasty)

Melittin Treats Periprosthetic Osteolysis in a Rat Model by Inhibiting the NF-kB Pathway and Regulating the Ratio of RANKL/OPG
Aseptic loosening around the prosthesis is a common cause of failure in total joint arthroplasty. Periprosthetic osteolysis, which is usually caused by polyethylene wear particles, triggers the release of inflammatory factors by macrophages. Key mediators involved in osteoclastogenesis include interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF-α), receptor activator of NF-kB (RANK), RANK ligand (RANKL), and bone protection hormone (OPG). The purpose of our experiment was to see whether melittin can slow down the release of inflammatory mediators through the NF-kB pathway, regulate the RANKL/OPG ratio, reduce osteoclast ...

New Ceramic Heads with Titanium Sleeves on Retained Femoral Components: Results of Over 500 Revision Total Hip Arthroplasties
Ceramic heads are frequently combined with titanium sleeves in revision total hip arthroplasties (THAs), ostensibly to protect the “female” taper of the ceramic head from existing damage to the retained femoral trunnion. Although widely adopted, data on the performance and safety of this construct are minimal. The purpose of this study was to describe implant survivorships, radiographic results, and clinical outcomes of pat ients who underwent revision THA with a ceramic head and titanium sleeve on a retained femoral component. Comparing Common Risk Assessment Tools to Predict Outcomes in Total Knee Arthroplasty
A number of tools exist to aid surgeons in risk assessment, including the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), the Elixhauser Comorbidity Index (ECI), and various measures of frailty, such as the Hospital Frailty Risk Score (HFR). While all of these tools have been validated for general use, the best risk assessment tool is still debated. Risk assessment is particularly important in elective surgery, such as total joint arthroplasty. The aim of this study is to compare the predictive power of the CCI, ECI, and HFR in the setting of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). (Source: The Journal of Arthroplasty)

Clinical Outcomes and Risk Factors for Re-Revision Due to Trunnion Corrosion in Primary Metal-on-Polyethylene Total Hip Arthroplasty
There is a paucity of literature regarding the mid-term (greater than 2 years) outcomes of revision for adverse local tissue reaction (ALTR) to metal debris due to corrosion at the head-neck junction (trunnionosis) in metal-on-polyethylene (MoP) total hip arthroplasty (THA), and risk factors for re-revision remain largely unknown. We aimed to report the re-revision-free survival and functional outcomes for this patient population and to identify risk factors for re-revision. (Source: The Journal of Arthroplasty)

The Subjective Hip Value is a Valid, Reliable, and Responsive Instrument for Assessing Hip Function in Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty
Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are essential tools in clinical decision-making and research. Multi-item scores like the modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS) are time-consuming to collect and evaluate. The subjective hip value (SHV), as a single-item value, assesses hip function with one question: "What is the overall percent value of your hip if a completely normal hip represents 100%?". The aims of our study were to assess the psychometric properties and thus validity, reliability, and responsiveness; and to define the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) of the SHV in patients undergoing total hip arthro...
