Letter to the Editor: The Use of Rifampin in Total Joint Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Comparative Studies
We recently read an article in the Journal of Arthroplasty by Kruse et al entitled: “The Use of Rifampin in Total Joint Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Comparative Studies.” The authors reviewed the existing literature in evaluating and summarizing the efficacy and safety of adding rifampin to the standard of care in the treatment of peripr osthetic joint infection (PJI) [1]. Melittin Treats Periprosthetic Osteolysis in a Rat Model by Inhibiting the NF-kB Pathway and Regulating the Ratio of RANKL/OPG

New Ceramic Heads with Titanium Sleeves on Retained Femoral Components: Results of Over 500 Revision Total Hip Arthroplasties
Ceramic heads are frequently combined with titanium sleeves in revision total hip arthroplasties (THAs), ostensibly to protect the “female” taper of the ceramic head from existing damage to the retained femoral trunnion. Comparing Common Risk Assessment Tools to Predict Outcomes in Total Knee Arthroplasty
A number of tools exist to aid surgeons in risk assessment, including the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), the Elixhauser Comorbidity Index (ECI), and various measures of frailty, such as the Hospital Frailty Risk Score (HFR). While all of these tools have been validated for general use, the best risk assessment tool is still debated. Risk assessment is particularly important in elective surgery, such as total joint arthroplasty. Clinical Outcomes and Risk Factors for Re-Revision Due to Trunnion Corrosion in Primary Metal-on-Polyethylene Total Hip Arthroplasty
There is a paucity of literature regarding the mid-term (greater than 2 years) outcomes of revision for adverse local tissue reaction (ALTR) to metal debris due to corrosion at the head-neck junction (trunnionosis) in metal-on-polyethylene (MoP) total hip arthroplasty (THA), and risk factors for re-revision remain largely unknown.
