Impact of routine birth early infant diagnosis on neonatal HIV treatment cascade in eThekwini district, South Africa
Conclusion: Implementation of R-EID in eThekwini district improved diagnosis and initiation of ART in HIV-infected neonates and should be recommended as part of diagnostic guidelines. These gains are, however, lost because of poor retention in care and viral suppression rates and therefore required urgent attention. (Source: Southern African Journal of HIV Medicine)

Implementation of a PMTCT programme in a high HIV prevalence setting in Johannesburg, South Africa: 2002 –2015
Conclusion: The achievements in decreasing paediatric HIV infections have been hailed as one of the greatest public health achievements of our times. While there are inherent limitations with using routinely collected aggregate data, the Soweto data reflect progress made in the implementation of PMTCT programmes in South Africa.
