Chlamydia trachomatis Infection and Seropositivity in Women Reporting Sexual Contact to a Chlamydia-Infected Partner
Among 73 women presenting to a sexually transmitted infection (STI) clinic in Birmingham, Alabama for reported sexual contact to a chlamydia-infected partner, Chlamydia trachomatis was detected in genital specimens in 24 (32.8%), less often in women reporting prior chlamydial infection (P = 0.001). Most women (93.2%) were C. trachomatis seropositive. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

Gaps in HIV Preexposure Prophylaxis Continuum of Care Following State Partner Services for Massachusetts Primary and Secondary Syphilis Cases, 2017 to 2018
Conclusions Few individuals accepted PrEP referrals and persisted on PrEP. Field and clinic data capture were inconsistent, possibly underestimating referral volume and impact of field engagement. Efforts aimed at increasing referral acceptance and clinic attendance may improve PrEP uptake especially among women and heterosexual men with syphilis. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

Factors Associated With Incidence and Spontaneous Clearance of Molecular-Bacterial Vaginosis: Results From a Longitudinal Frequent-Sampling Observational Study
Conclusions Although it is now well documented that vaginal microbiota are dynamic, there are few available data on factors associated with spontaneous clearance of molecular-BV. Lactobacillus iners–dominated vaginal microbiota are more likely to be dynamic and associated with different risk factors for incidence and clearance of BV. Among L. iners–dominated participants, age, race, and douching were linked to reduced clearance. Most transitions to molecular-BV during menstruations were short-lived. Trichomonas vaginalis and Spontaneous Preterm Birth in a High-Risk Obstetric Cohort in Atlanta, GA
Conclusions The prevalence of TV was high in this cohort. Its infection was not associated with a statistically significantly increased risk of sPTB. Nevertheless, the magnitude of effect is consistent with prior meta-analyses. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

Development of a Psychometric Tool to Measure Community Solidarity Among Sexual Minorities: Evidence From a Pay-it-Forward Randomized Controlled Trial
Conclusions Community solidarity among MSM in China can be characterized by 3 factors: engagement, social network support, and sense of belonging. Sense of belonging was higher in the pay-it-forward intervention arm and may be associated with the uptake of gonorrhea/chlamydia test. Future studies are warranted to confirm the psychometric structure of community solidarity and further investigate behavioral mechanisms of pay it forward. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing, Prevalence, and Treatment Among Individuals Receiving HIV Preexposure Prophylaxis Within an Integrated Healthcare Delivery System
Conclusions Although HIV/STI testing rates were high, they can still be improved during HIV PrEP management. High STI prevalence after PrEP initiation in this study suggests that patients taking PrEP are at risk of acquiring an STI. Interventions to improve STI services during PrEP management are continuously needed. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

The Use of the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research to Understand Facilitators and Barriers to Sexually Transmitted Infection Screening in Primary Care
Conclusions Our use of the CFIR facilitated a systematic approach to identify gaps in STI care for adolescents and identified opportunities to close those gaps. An integrated, systematic approach that enhances patient confidentiality and improves clinicians' knowledge could address gaps in STI care in pediatric primary care settings. A Statewide Mixed-Methods Study of Provider Knowledge and Behavior Administering Expedited Partner Therapy for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea
Conclusions Given that over a quarter of respondents did not know expedited partner therapy (EPT)'s legal status, improving provider education may increase EPT provision. More research is needed on system-level barriers and patient acceptance of solutions identified in this study. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

Consumer-Based Sexually Transmitted Infection Screening Among Young Adult Women: The Negative Influence of the Social System
Conclusions Stigma and social influences must be accounted for in future research and interventions to meet the STI screening needs of young adult women. Findings from this research can inform the development of targeted interventions for women who may perceive heightened stigma to STI screening. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

The Emergence of Hepatitis C Virus Genotype 4d Among Human Immunodeficiency Virus–Infected Patients in Mexico City: A Molecular Epidemiological Study
The recent detection of hepatitis C virus genotype 4 infection in human immunodeficiency virus–infected patients prompted performing molecular characterization of these isolates. All the Mexican isolates belonged to a subcluster within the 4d group and shared a common ancestor with a French isolate. The estimated timing of introduction in Mexico City was as recent as December 2015. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

Coinfection With Chlamydial and Gonorrheal Infection Among US Adults With Early Syphilis
Among 865 adults with early syphilis considered for a multicenter treatment trial, 234 (27%) were excluded before enrollment because of bacterial sexually transmitted infection coinfection. Coinfection with Neisseria gonorrhoeae (29%), Chlamydia trachomatis (22%), or both (23%) was common. Study findings highlight the need for comprehensive bacterial sexually transmitted infection screening in patients with syphilis. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)
