Direct and Indirect Cost Savings From Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing, Treatment, and Counseling Among Foster Youth
Conclusions Given the rates of STIs among this population and the economic benefit of STI treatment, it is imperative to continue to provide intensive and comprehensive, individualized sexual health care for foster youth. Traditional care management may miss the opportunity to prevent, identify, and treat STIs that comprehensive wraparound care can achieve. This study suggests that comprehensive wraparound care is a cost-effective way to identify, treat, and prevent STIs among foster youth. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

Sensitivity of Self-Reported Human Papillomavirus Vaccination History Among 18- to 26-Year-Old Men Who Have Sex With Men: Seattle, WA, 2016 to 2018
Background We assessed the sensitivity of self-reported human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among young adult men who have sex with men (MSM) with documented HPV vaccination. Methods During 2016–2018, MSM and transgender women aged 18 to 26 years were enrolled in Seattle, WA. A history of HPV vaccination was assessed via self-administered survey, clinic electronic medical records, and the Washington State Immunization Information System. Evaluation of Clinical, Gram Stain, and Microbiological Cure Outcomes in Men Receiving Azithromycin for Acute Nongonococcal Urethritis: Discordant Cures Are Associated With Mycoplasma genitalium Infection
Conclusions In azithromycin-treated NGU, clinical cure predicts microbiological cure for all STIs, except MG. Nongonococcal urethritis management should include MG testing and confirmation of microbiological cure in azithromycin-treated MG-NGU when MRM testing is unavailable. Bridging the Gap Between Pilot and Scale-Up: A Model of Antenatal Testing for Curable Sexually Transmitted Infections From Botswana
Conclusions As countries consider new technologies to strengthen health services, there is an opportunity to determine how to best deploy resources. Compared with point-of-care, centralized laboratory, and syndromic management, the mixed approach offered the lowest cost per infection averted and is cost-effective if policy makers' willingness to pay is informed by the World Health Organization's gross domestic product/capita threshold. The Role of External Genital Lesions in Human Immunodeficiency Virus Seroconversion Among Men Participating in a Multinational Study
Conclusions External genital lesions were not associated with higher risk for HIV seroconversion in this multinational population, although statistical power was limited as there were few HIV seroconversions. Results may differ in populations at higher risk for HIV. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

A Collaborative Intervention Between Emergency Medicine and Infectious Diseases to Increase Syphilis and HIV Screening in the Emergency Department
Background Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a common reason for evaluation in the emergency department (ED). Given the overlapping risk factors for STIs, patients screened for gonorrhea and chlamydia should be tested for syphilis and HIV. Syphilis and HIV testing rates in the ED have been reported to be low. The study objective was to examine whether collaboration between emergency medicine (EM) and infectious disease (ID) providers improved syphilis and HIV testing in the ED. Methods A multidisciplinary team of EM and ID providers was formed to identify and address barriers to syphilis and HIV testing...

Automating Case Reporting of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea to Public Health Authorities in Oregon Clinics
Conclusions The eCR approach was successful in identifying CT and GC cases and provided a more complete set of information to assist public health authorities when compared with ELRs. Trends in Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Testing and Positivity Rates in a Safety Net Hospital in Georgia: 2014 to 2017
Conclusions Testing volume in emergency medicine has increased at a faster rate than other specialties; point-of-care testing could ensure more accurate treatment and improve antibiotic stewardship. The rates of CT/GC were high among adolescents and young adults. Tailored approaches are needed to lower barriers to care for this vulnerable population. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

Effects of Case Management on Risky Sexual Behaviors and Syphilis Among HIV-Infected Men Who Have Sex With Men in China: A Randomized Controlled Study
Background The prevalence of syphilis is very high in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)–positive men who have sex with men (MSM), and effective interventions are needed to educate HIV-positive individuals about behavioral and biological risk factors. Therefore, we developed a standard case management process and conducted a randomized controlled study to investigate the impact on risky sexual behaviors and syphilis in HIV-positive MSM. Methods Men who have sex with men (n = 220) were enrolled and randomized to the case management intervention group and the control group between May 2016 and January 2017. The ...

Attitudes and Preferences Regarding Non–Clinic-Based Self-Collection for Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing Among Clinic Attendees in British Columbia, Canada
Conclusions Non–clinic-based self-collection for STI testing can address barriers to testing while maintaining quality care. Those currently receiving in-person care find these methods highly acceptable. These findings reinforce that self-collection for STI testing used in British Columbia clinics is acceptable to clients and may be extended to collection performed outside of the clinical setting. Impact of Check It: A Novel Community-Based Chlamydia Screening and Expedited Treatment Program for Young Black Men
Conclusions The Check It program was associated with a significant decline in chlamydia testing positivity rates among women in Orleans Parish compared with control sites. Screening of young Black men who have sex with women can decrease rates in women living in the same community. Future recommendations for chlamydia screening of young men should be considered.
