The Population-Level Effect of Screening for Mycoplasma genitalium on Antimicrobial Resistance: A Quasi-Experimental Study
Conclusions If screening and treatment increase the ratio of resistant to susceptible M. genitalium in a population, then this could play a role in the spread of antimicrobial resistance. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

“Empowering Our People”: Impact of a Culturally Adapted Evidence-Based Intervention on Sexually Transmitted Infection Risks Among Native Americans With Binge Substance Use
Conclusions The culturally adapted evidence-based intervention, EMPWR, increased uptake of STI screening and refusal of sex if partner was not STI tested and decreased the frequency of unprotected sex acts among Native American adults with recent binge substance use living on a rural reservation. Future research is needed to examine EMPWR impacts among other Native American subgroups and its potential for advancing sexual health equity in this high-priority population. Interest, Concerns, and Attitudes Among Men Who Have Sex With Men and Health Care Providers Toward Prophylactic Use of Doxycycline Against Chlamydia trachomatis Infections and Syphilis
Conclusions Doxycycline PrEP/PEP as a preventive strategy against chlamydial infections and syphilis would likely be accepted among community members and health care providers. Clear guidelines from public health officials and further clarification on the strategy's potential impact on developing drug resistance may be necessary to ensure successful implementation. Management of Trichomoniasis in the Setting of 5-Nitroimidazole Hypersensitivity
Metronidazole and other 5-nitroimidazoles are the mainstay of Trichomonas vaginalis treatment, with few efficacious and safe treatment options available outside of this class. Patients with trichomoniasis and a history of a clinically confirmed hypersensitivity reaction to 5-nitroimidazoles present a management challenge for clinicians. The first step in managing such patients is metronidazole desensitization. In situations where this cannot be performed or tolerated, treatment with alternative regimens outside of the 5-nitroimidazole class, such as intravaginal boric acid or paromomycin, may be possible. Interest in Hypothetical Preexposure Prophylaxis Against Herpes Simplex Virus: A Cross-Sectional Survey
We surveyed 383 men who have sex with men attending sexual health clinics regarding interest in hypothetical preexposure prophylaxis against herpes simplex virus. Overall interest was 62.5% and was associated with the number of different sexually transmitted infections previously diagnosed (adjusted odds ratio, 1.9; 95% confidence interval, 1.5–2.6) and previous HIV preexposure prophylaxis use (adjusted odds ratio, 2.9; 95% confidence interval, 1.1–8.3). Emergency Department–Based Human Immunodeficiency Virus Preexposure Prophylaxis Referral Program—Using Emergency Departments as a Portal for Preexposure Prophylaxis Services
A pilot program was implemented to assess the feasibility of emergency department (ED) preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) referral. Of 119 eligible patients approached and assessed, 39 (33%) expressed interest and were referred to peer navigators. Of these, 16 (41%) scheduled for appointments; four (10%) initiated PrEP, which demonstrated ED-based PrEP referral was feasible. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

Measuring the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Sexually Transmitted Diseases Public Health Surveillance and Program Operations in the State of California
Conclusions During the COVID-19 era, STD case reporting and programmatic functions have diminished throughout CA. Because this may contribute to decreases or delays in STD diagnosis and treatment—with resultant increases in STD transmission—providers and public health officials should prepare for potential increases in STD-related morbidity in the months and years to come. Inadequate Engagement in HIV Care Among People With HIV Newly Diagnosed With a Sexually Transmitted Disease: A Multijurisdictional Analysis
Conclusions A large proportion of STD cases with prior HIV diagnosis are out of care or viremic. Integrating relinkage to care activities into STD partner services and/or the use of matching STD and HIV data systems to prioritize data to care activities could be an efficient means for relinking patients to care and promoting viral suppression. Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Hepatitis C Linkage-to-Care Initiative for New Orleans Residents Experiencing Homelessness During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Conclusions Targeting homeless persons living in temporary residences for HCV and HIV screening can be effective at promoting access to care for those infected due to this population's high HCV seropositivity especially significant if the patient has a history of intravenous drug use or is older than 40 years. However, continued outreach strategies are needed to assist patients in retention of care. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

Changes in Sexual Behavior Related to the COVID-19 Stay-at-Home Orders Among Young Black Men Who Have Sex With Women in New Orleans, LA
Background COVID-19 stay-at-home orders enacted in New Orleans, LA on March 16, 2020, may have caused changes in the way young men interacted with sex partners. Methods An online substudy was conducted (May 21, 2020 to June 9, 2020) among Black men who have sex with women, 18 years and older, and who had previously enrolled in the parent study Check It (May 17, 2017 to March 6, 2020) to assess changes in sexual behavior during the stay-at-home orders. Results Among 111 participants, from enrollment in Check It to during stay-at-home orders, recent vaginal sex declined from 96.4% to 47.8% (P (Source: Sexua...

Rural College Students’ Amenability Toward Using At-Home Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing Kits
Conclusions Study findings suggest the importance of developing less clinically oriented systems of HIV/STI screening, which allow students to choose from an array of screening options. Removing perceived barriers, notably access and privacy concerns, to HIV/STI testing by leveraging at-home testing is one potential method to increase screening uptake among this at-risk population.
