The meaning of injury to the elite athlete: A systematic review
Psychol Sport Exerc. 2023 Nov 30:102571. doi: 10.1016/j.psychsport.2023.102571. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the pursuit of a successful career in elite sports, athletes mostly rely on their physical abilities. An injury can threaten such a career, thereby representing a potentially critical life event that carries considerable meaning to the affected athlete. Qualitative literature exploring injury experiences in elite athletes is therefore seeking to frame injury through the athlete's own voice. With this systematic review, we aimed to answer the research question What is the meaning of injuries to the elite athlete?...

Links between environmental features and developmental outcomes of elite youth athletes: A cross-sectional study within the German talent pathway
Psychol Sport Exerc. 2023 Nov 24:102569. doi: 10.1016/j.psychsport.2023.102569. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFrom a holistic perspective, the talent development environment (TDE) influences not only the athletic development but also the development of personal skills as well as the wellbeing of elite youth athletes. Alongside research on the effects of broader environmental features on athlete-related talent development (TD) outcomes, the importance of the closer social climate (i.e., teammates, coaches, support staff) is also emphasized. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between environ...

"We're stronger as a family": Family experiences and relationships in an adapted physical activity camp
This study examined family members' perspectives on their lived experiences with their relationships within their family and how they perceived they were affected by their participation in an adapted summer camp for families with a child living with a disability. We conducted a collective case study with five families who participated in a week-long camp. A focus group was conducted with each family and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Participation in the camp impacted family relationships by reducing isolation for mothers; alleviating stress and anxiety which helped families bond; providing shared experience w...

The effects of interpersonal development programmes with sport coaches and parents on youth athlete outcomes: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Psychol Sport Exerc. 2023 Nov 20:102558. doi: 10.1016/j.psychsport.2023.102558. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInterpersonal coach-and parent development programmes (CDP and PDP, respectively), have the goal to foster positive youth sport experiences through high-quality relations between coaches, parents, and youth athletes. In this paper we systematically review the extant literature and estimate the overall magnitude of such programmes and how they can inform future interventions. Specifically, we aimed to: (a) conduct a systematic review on the literature of interpersonal CDPs and PDPs within the youth sport context; (b...
