Perfectionism and performance in sport: Exploring non-linear relationships with track and field athletes
Psychol Sport Exerc. 2023 Oct 30:102552. doi: 10.1016/j.psychsport.2023.102552. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe relationship between perfectionism - perfectionistic strivings and perfectionistic concerns - and athletic performance is contested and inconsistent. The present study explored the possibility that one explanation for this inconsistency is the assumption that the relationship is linear. In two samples, we tested alternative non-linear relationships between perfectionism and real-world competitive athletic performance. Sample one comprised 165 Swedish track and field athletes (57 % competing in female category, ...

Automatic processes moderate the association between reflective processes and movement behavior: A cross-sectional study
Psychol Sport Exerc. 2023 Oct 24;70:102554. doi: 10.1016/j.psychsport.2023.102554. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDual-process theories postulate that both reflective and automatic processes regulate health behavior. Further research is required to test the basic postulates of dual-process theories. We investigated the direct associations and moderating effect between automatic processes and multiple indicators of reflective processes on various levels of physical activity and sedentary behavior assessed using accelerometry in adults who were not participating in regular physical exercise programs. This cross-sectional stud...

Professional development of sport psychology practitioners: From systematic review to a model of development
We present the interaction of these developmental phases, elements, and processes in the form of a sport psychology-specific process model of PD. We discuss the implications of this model and its potential contribution to future research, supervision, and training programs. Yet, we also acknowledge how a focus on Anglophone and Western cultural contexts and a lack of methodological transparency are limitations of the extant literature.PMID:37866685 | DOI:10.1016/j.psychsport.2023.102550 (Source: Psychology of Sport and Exercise)

Promoting mental health and wellbeing among young males in sporting contexts: A systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: This review suggests that there is scope to improve the capacity of sports-based interventions to affect positive change in the mental health of male youth. The findings from this review also have important implications for the development and evaluation of sports-based interventions targeted at young males in future.PMID:37866686 | DOI:10.1016/j.psychsport.2023.102551 (Source: Psychology of Sport and Exercise)
