Feasibility and acceptability of integrating a multicomponent breastfeeding promotion intervention into routine health services in private health facilities in Lagos State, Nigeria: A mixed methods process evaluation
by Diana Allotey, Valerie L. Flax, Abiodun F. Ipadeola, Olatoun Adeola, Katie Grimes, Linda S. Adair, Carmina G. Valle, Margaret E. Bentley, Sujata Bose, Stephanie L. Martin Most health care providers in Lagos State, Nigeria are private and are not required to offer breastfeeding counseling to women. From May 2019-April 2020, Alive& Thrive implemented a multicomponent breastfeeding promotion intervention in private health facilities in Lagos that included training and support to implement the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative and provide breastfeeding counseling and support to pregnant women and lactating mothers in perso...

Spatial distribution and determinants of HIV high burden in the Southern African sub-region
ConclusionsOur research findings show that analysis of survey data could provide reasonable estimates of the wide-ranging spatial structure of the HIV epidemic in Southern African countries. Key determinants such as individuals who are divorced, middle-aged women, and people who recently treated STIs, should be the focus of HIV prevention and control interventions. The spatial distribution of high-burden areas for HIV in the selected countries was more pronounced in the major cities. Interventions should also be focused on locations identified as hotspot clusters. (Source: PLoS One)

The role of sociodemographic factors on the acceptability of digital mental health care: A scoping review protocol
by Nagi Abouzeid, Shalini Lal IntroductionMany individuals experiencing mental health complications face barriers when attempting to access services. To bridge this care gap, digital mental health innovations (DMHI) have proven to be valuable additions to in-person care by enhancing access to care. An important aspect to consider when evaluating the utility of DMHI is perceived acceptability. However, it is unclear whether diverse sociodemographic groups differ in their degree of perceived acceptability of DMHI. ObjectiveThis scoping review aims to synthesize evidence on the role of sociodemographic factors (e.g., age, gen...

Exploring the impact of arginine-supplemented immunonutrition on length of stay in the intensive care unit: A retrospective cross-sectional analysis
by Niels D. Martin, Laura L. Schott, Mary K. Miranowski, Amarsinh M. Desai, Cynthia C. Lowen, Zhun Cao, Krysmaru Araujo Torres BackgroundArginine-supplemented enteral immunonutrition has been designed to optimize outcomes in critical care patients. Existing formulas may be isocaloric and isoproteic, yet differ in L-arginine content, energy distribution, and in source and amount of many other specialized ingredients. The individual contributions of each may be difficult to pinpoint; however, all cumulate in the body ’s response to illness and injury. The study objective was to compare health outcomes between different imm...

The KRAS, ATR and CHEK1 expression levels in endometrial cancer are the risk factors predicting recurrence
In this study, we found significantly elevated mRNA expression levels of the oncoprotei nKRAS, along with two replicative stress markers,ATR andCHEK1, in samples of endometrial carcinomas of endometrium (ECE) from patients with relapse. In contrast, mRNA expression levels of the studied genes were low and uniform in samples from patients without relapse. Elevated levels of KRAS protein and the phosphorylated form of ATR/CHEK1 were distinguishing features of recurrent ECE. A strong positive correlation was found between elevated mRNA and protein levels of the studied molecules. Elevated KRAS protein levels are characteristi...

Estimation of the number of motor units in the human extensor digitorum brevis using MScanFit
ConclusionThe EDB CMAP was highly sensitive to electrode position, and the optimal position differed between subjects. Individual differences in EDB MUNE were not related to CMAP amplitude. Inter-subject variability of EDB MUNE (coefficient of variation) was much less than previously reported, possibly explained by better optimization of the EMG electrode and the unique approach of MScanFit MUNE. Cervical microbiota dysbiosis associated with high-risk Human Papillomavirus infection
In this study we identified significantly lower abundance ofLactobacillus mucosae in women with HR-HPV infection compared to the control group. Furthermore, changes in bacterial diversity were noted inLactobacillus non-dominant (LND) samples compared toLactobacillus-dominant (LD) in both HR-HPV-infected and control groups. LND samples in HR-HPV-infected women exhibited a cervical dysbiotic state, characterized byLactobacillus deficiency. In turn, the LD HR-HPV group showed an overrepresentation ofLactobacillus helveticus. In summary, our study highlighted the distinctive roles ofL.mucosae andL.helveticus in HR-HPV infectio...

Sexual and reproductive health while living with rheumatoid arthritis: The impact of the disease stage on patient perspectives
ConclusionsThe sexual and reproductive experiences narrated by the RA outpatients concerning their disease-related biography showed that even when the SRH appeared as not prioritized at the disease onset, it was widely expressed during the process of living and coping with the disease and was additionally affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Reducing risk behaviours after stroke: An overview of reviews interrogating primary study data using the Theoretical Domains Framework
ConclusionLimited theory-based research and use of behaviour-change mediators exists within stroke secondary prevention trials.Knowledge,Beliefs about Consequences, andEmotions are the domains which positively influence risk-reducing behaviours post-stroke. Behaviour-change interventions should include these evidence-based constructs known to be effective. Future trials should address cardiovascular outcomes and ensure adequate follow-up time. Hepatitis C treatment outcomes among people who inject drugs experiencing unstable versus stable housing: Systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsAmong PWID, unstable housing appears to be a barrier to HCV treatment initiation; however, the existing data is limited for treatment initiation and the other outcomes we examined. There is a need for more informative studies to better understand HCV treatment among those with unstable housing. Specifically, future studies should better define housing status beyond a binary, static measure to capture the nuances and complexity of housing and its subsequent impact on HCV treatment. Additionally, researchers should meaningfully consider whether the outcome(s) of interest are being accurately measured for individua...

Pharmacological prevention of bone loss and fractures following solid organ transplantations: Protocol for a systematic review and network meta-analysis
DiscussionsTo our knowledge, this systematic review and NMA will be the most comprehensive quantitative analysis regarding the management of bone loss and fractures in SOT recipients. Our analysis should be able to provide physicians and patients with an up-to-date recommendation for pharmacotherapies in reducing incidences of bone loss and fractures associated with SOT. The findings of the NMA will be disseminated in a peer-reviewed journal. (Source: PLoS One)

Dimensions of caregiver strain may partially mediate the relationship between youth symptomology and counseling utilization among Latinxs
We examined multiple dimensions of caregiver strain as potential mediators between youth mental health symptom severity and psychological counseling utilization. The present sample consisted of 598 Latinx caregivers to youths ages 6–18 who provided information on youth internalizing and externalizing problems, caregiver strain, and youth psychological counseling service utilization within the last year. Our findings suggest that youth symptom severity (internalizing and externalizing problems) was generally positively associated with dimensions of caregiver strain. Youth sympto m severity throughobjective andsubjective i...

Epithelial-mesenchymal interaction protects normal colonocytes from 4-HNE-induced phenotypic transformation
ConclusionsDuring the exposure phase, the epithelial-mesenchymal interaction protected colonocytes from 4-HNE-induced phenotypic transformation via activation of the BMP pathway. This intercellular dialogue also limited the ability of fibroblasts to subsequently promote colonocyte-anchorage-independent growth. In contrast, fibroblasts pre-exposed to 4-HNE in monoculture strongly increased the ability of Co(m) colonocytes to form colonies. (Source: PLoS One)
