Vascularized Bone Grafting in the Treatment of Scaphoid Nonunion: A Clinical and Functional Outcome Study
Conclusions The findings of this study showed that scaphoid unions can be treated successfully with high rates of union using the 1,2-ICSRA-VBG. This surgical technique requires special surgical experience. The functional outcome of patients improved after treatment, although smoking was found to be an important factor affecting functional results. Pyrocardan Scaphotrapeziotrapezoid Joint Arthroplasty for Isolated Osteoarthritis: Results after a Mean Follow-Up of 5 Years
Conclusions In the medium term, Pyrocardan implant is an effective treatment for STT OA as it reduces pain, increases grip strength, and maintains wrist mobility. This is consistent with the results of other published case series using pyrocarbon implants. It provides a high rate of patient satisfaction. Nevertheless, the surgical procedure must be done carefully to avoid STT ligament damage, periarticular calcifications, or dislocation. Biomechanical Comparison of Dart-Throw Motions after Partial Wrist Fusions
Conclusion/Clinical Relevance This study provides a comprehensive compilation of the range of motion in a functional plane, “the dart-throw motion,” for limited wrist fusions and PRC. These data provide the clinician with important information that can be used to educate patients regarding expectations after surgery. Assessment and Management of Acute Volar Rim Fractures
J Wrist Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1732338The volar rim of the distal radius is the only bony restraint to volar carpal subluxation. Higher loads across the volar rim require stable and rigid fixation to maintain reduction and allow healing while rehabilitation begins. Volar marginal fragments are not amenable to buttressing by fixed angle volar locking plates. Appropriate management of volar marginal fragments comprises two steps—recognition of their presence and rigid anatomical repair. The best opportunity for success in the presence of a volar marginal fragment is its adequate initial treatment. The purpose of this rev...

Treatment Recommendations for Suspected Scapholunate Ligament Pathology
Conclusions Diagnostic arthroscopy leads to more surgery, and more invasive surgery, in spite of unreliable assessment of pathology. Clinical Relevance This points to the need to measure the potential benefits and harms of diagnostic wrist arthroscopy among people with wrist pain and no clear diagnosis on interview, examination, and radiographs. Level of Evidence Not applicable. Trapeziectomy with Ligament Reconstruction and Tendon Interposition versus Trapeziometacarpal Joint Replacement for Thumb Carpometacarpal Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusion Our study reveals that while both treatment options are valid, the limited body of evidence currently available shows that joint replacement carries more risks and thus should not replace the current standard treatment of trapeziectomy with LRTI. This study highlights the need for more trials to be performed to more accurately compare the two treatment modalities. For the time being, we advocate that joint replacement is only performed by surgeons who perform this procedure regularly to reduce the risk of complications.
