Perilunate Injury Timing and Treatment Options: A Systematic Review
Conclusions Timing of surgery is essential for an optimal outcome. When there is a delay of treatment, the outcomes are inferior to those treated acutely. Early referral to centralized treatment units for perilunate injuries would allow for targeted treatment and facilitate research on this difficult wrist injury. CT Scan versus Saline Load Test for Detection of Traumatic Wrist Arthrotomy
Conclusion CT scan correctly identified eight of the nine simulated traumatic arthrotomies. Injection of 7 mL during the SLT was necessary to identify 100% of the arthrotomies. Clinical Relevance CT scan is a sensitive modality for detection of traumatic arthrotomy of the wrist in a cadaveric model. Poor Patient-Reported Outcomes following Surgical Treatment of Eaton Grade 1 Osteoarthritis of the Thumb Carpometacarpal Joint
Conclusion Patients with Eaton stage 1 CMC-1 OA had poorer PROs, as compared with more advanced stages of OA, 6 months following surgical treatment with interposition arthroplasty. Based on our results, we advise against surgical treatment with interposition arthroplasty of the very mildest CMC-1 OA, regardless of the preoperative PROs. Is DISI Deformity Related to Presence of a Medial Lunate Facet in Patients with Scapholunate Dissociation?
Conclusion Our results suggest a similar prevalence of DISI deformity or enlarged SL angle in patients with type I or II lunate in presence of SL dissociation. The Viegas classification is a reliable and reproducible classification system. Level of evidence This is a Level III, cross-sectional study design. Dorsal Plate Osteosynthesis in Simple and Complex Fractures of the Distal Radius: A Radiological Analysis of 166 Cases
Conclusion Our radiographic findings after dorsal plating are comparable to those published on volar plating. The changes in radial height and volar tilt could be attributed to projection-related differences in the radiographs and did not signify a loss of reduction in all cases. Clinical Relevance Dorsal plating of distal radius fractures is safe and remains an important approach in the treatment of complex distal radius fractures. Complications in our study were even less compared to those reported in the literature. Type of Study/Level of Evidence This is a Type IV study. Level of Experience of Surg...

Four-Corner Arthrodesis: Comparative Analysis of Open Technique Versus Percutaneous Technique with Arthroscopic Assistance
Conclusions The percutaneous technique with arthroscopic assistance for the 4-courner arthrodesis is a reproducible technique and is effective in achieving consolidation, pain reduction and preservation of wrist motion. In the present study, we demonstrate superiority of this technique over the open surgery. Level of Evidence This is a Level III, therapeutic study. Thenar and Hypothenar Muscle Coverage on the Transverse Carpal Ligament
Conclusions More than 50% of the TCL at the distal carpal tunnel is covered by thenar and hypothenar muscles. Knowledge of muscular attachments to the TCL improves our understanding of carpal tunnel syndrome etiology and can guide carpal tunnel release surgery. Dynadesis for Treatment of Dynamic Scaphoid Instability with 20-Year Results
Conclusions Dynadesis is specifically designed for the treatment of DSI. It avoids the eventual complication of osteoarthritis and does not sacrifice wrist motion. A predictable and satisfactory long-term result is obtainable with correct patient selection based on clinical staging and arthroscopic findings. Pseudotumor after Total Wrist Arthroplasty Mimicking a Neoplasm
J Wrist Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1735303 Background Total wrist arthroplasty can lead to a variation of complications. One of these is the formation of a pseudotumor. Although this complication is well known after total hip arthroplasty, it is rare in patients with wrist implants. Case Description A 55-year-old man with a Universal 2 (Integra, Plainsboro, NJ) wrist prosthesis was seen with a progressive mass on the radial side of his wrist since 1 year, initially suspicious for a neoplasm. However, after exploration, histopathology confirmed a particle-induced foreign body reaction. Literature Review T...

A “Congenitally Adapted” TFCC Tear in Radial Longitudinal Deficiency: Case Report and Review of Literature
We present a case of chronic wrist pain in a 14-year-old child with mild radial longitudinal deficiency and radiographic carpal collapse due to the absence of the scaphoid. Wrist arthroscopy demonstrated synovitis and a tear to the TFCC, which would be called “degenerative,” according to the Palmer classification. This was debrided, and the patient is still asymptomatic at long-term follow-up. Review of the literature found one paper with a similar observation in a 17-year-old adolescent. We propose that paediatric “degenerative” tears ought to be called “congenitally adapted” tears. [...] Thieme Medical Publis...

Evaluation of the Reliability and Quality of Information in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Shared on YouTube
Conclusion YouTube is one of the most frequently used resource for patients to get information about their diagnosis and treatment methods and it consists of videos with low reliability and quality for CTS. We believe that the creation of an internet-based information resource, which the patients can refer to is one of the current social responsibilities of the physicians and the academicians. Level of Evidence This is a Level V study. Compression Screw Fixation of Lunate Fracture: Case Report and Review of the Literature
J Wrist Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1733878 Background Isolated traumatic lunate fractures without other surgical carpal bone or ligamentous injuries are extremely rare, with few published reports available to guide management. Lunate fracture management is controversial, and depends on concurrent injuries of adjacent carpal bones, ligaments, risk of ischemia, and displacement. Case Description A 48-year-old right hand dominant man suffered a crush injury to the left hand caught between a forklift and a metal shelf. Radiographs and computed tomography imaging of the left hand and wrist were significant for a dis...
