Epidermal Inclusion Cyst Formation: Late Complication of Carpal Tunnel Release
We describe a case of an EIC presenting as a late complication following open carpal tunnel release (CTR). Case Description A 64-year-old woman with a history of left open CTR 17 years prior presented to our institution with unprovoked left palmar pain, swelling, and fluctuance. Computed tomography imaging confirmed the presence of a multiloculated abscess involving the hypothenar musculature. The abscess developed at the site of a small, pre-existing, asymptomatic mass that the patient recalls developed within months of CTR surgery. She was initially treated with antibiotics and bedside incision and drainage, but r...

Arthroscopic Assistance in Surgical Management of Distal Radius Fractures: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Conclusion There was low-quality evidence that wrist arthroscopy conveyed not clinically or statistically significant difference to functional outcomes of patients with DRFs. However, our findings are limited by the numbers of studies included and lack of long-term follow-up, although they do provide a good starting point for future quality research. Four-Corner Arthrodesis with a Dorsal Locking PEEK Plate: A Retrospective Case Series
Conclusion 4CA with a locking PEEK plate has clinical and radiographic outcomes similar to other methods. We observed a high rate of hardware complications. It is unclear whether this implant offers a clear advantage over other methods of fixation used in 4CA. Type of Study/Level of Evidence Level IV, therapeutic study. The Primary Cost Drivers of Outpatient Distal Radius Fracture Fixation: A Cost-Minimalization Analysis of 15,379 Cases
Conclusion Substantial contributors to total cost are postoperative hospital admission within 30 days of surgery, use of regional anesthesia, simultaneous endoscopic carpal tunnel release, and longer operative time. Level of Evidence Level III, retrospective cohort study. Clinical Outcomes of Arthroscopic Ligament-Sparing Dorsal Capsulodesis for Partial Scapholunate Ligament Tear
Conclusion Arthroscopic ligament-sparing dorsal capsular tightening is a safe and effective treatment for partial SLL tears. Dorsal capsular tightening demonstrates good pain relief and patient satisfaction while improving patient-reported outcomes, grip strength, and maintaining ROM. Longer term studies are required to determine the longevity of these results. Lunate Fracture Morphology in Kienbock's Disease – A Computed Tomography Study
Conclusion Study on the fracture morphology in the Kienbock's wrist has improved our understanding of the disease pathogenesis. Fracture lines may correspond to loading points, intrinsic and extrinsic ligament avulsions. These fracture types may play a role in disease progression and are important to identify when considering lunate salvage surgery. The “COVID-19 Approach” to Distal Radius Fracture Management
Conclusion Despite comparative numbers and patterns of DRFs as well as no significant difference in the number of injuries requiring orthopaedic intervention, the burden on fracture clinic services was significantly reduced during the COVID pandemic. Encouragingly, this reduction in follow-up has not translated into an increased prevalence of complications or requirement for further surgery. Level of Evidence: The level of evidence of the study is level III. Early MRI for Pediatric Wrist Injuries —Prospective Case Series of 150 Cases
Conclusion Standardized care in our unit has yielded good results with low complication rate and fewer hospital appointments. Our results support the routine early use of MRI and a shorter duration of immobilization in fracture of the distal pole of the scaphoid at 4 weeks. Level of Evidence This is a level IV, case series study.
