Masquelet Procedure for the Treatment of Intra-articular Defects of the Wrist
J Wrist Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0042-1760123 Background The purpose of this case series is to show our experiences with the Masquelet procedure in a variety of infected defects of the wrist. Case Description All consecutive patients that were treated between 2015 and 2021 were included in this case series. Five patients were included with an infected defect of the wrist, involving the radiocarpal and/or the distal radioulnar joints (DRUJ). All patients underwent thorough debridement of the defect and the created void was filled with a gentamicin/vancomycin cement spacer. Cultures were taken and appropriate antibi...

Risk Factors for the Incidence of the Volar Lunate Facet Fragments in Distal Radius Fractures
Conclusion Over-reduction of the VT at primary fixation should be avoided because it could place an excess burden on the VLF and cause subsequent postoperative fixation failure and volar carpal subluxation. Palmar Dislocation Fracture of the Hamate: A Case Report and Review of Literature
We report the case of a 34-year-old victim of a high kinetic traffic accident. The initial evaluation revealed multiple fractures of both upper limbs, including a palmar fracture dislocation fracture of the hamate, without any vascular or nerve complications. Open surgical treatment via a dorsal approach allowed reduction and fixation of the hamate by temporary multiple pinning. At 12-month follow-up the patient had pain free motion of the wrist with a DASH score of 3. Radiographs showed evidence of proximal pole hamate sclerosis and carpo-metacarpal narrowing. Literature Review Owing to its rarity, literature on th...

Comparison of Clinical and Functional Outcomes after Platelet-Rich Plasma Injection and Corticosteroid Injection for the Treatment of de Quervain's Tenosynovitis
Conclusion Both the modalities are equally effective in the management of DQTSV remittance. PRP is equally effective as corticosteroid in reducing symptoms of first dorsal compartment stenosing tenosynovitis. PRP may have a lower complication profile, however, this benefit should be weighed against the slight increase in cost and time of PRP preparation and injection. Level of evidence - Level 2, prospective comparative study. Dorsal Scapholunate Ligament Reconstruction by Using Palmaris Longus Tendon Graft in Chronic Static Scapholunate Dissociations: Does It Yield Favorable Radiographic and Functional Results?
Conclusion Dorsal SL ligament reconstruction by using free PL tendon graft was detected to provide successful restoration of the normal carpal alignment together with SL joint stability. This procedure, by significantly reducing pain and improving grip strength was detected to yield significantly improved clinical and functional outcomes, together with high patient satisfaction indicated by improved health-related quality of life (HRQOL) scores. Outcome of Preoperative Asymptomatic or Minimally Symptomatic DRUJ Arthritis after Total Wrist Arthrodesis: A Single-Institution Case Series
Conclusion In patients with symptomatic RC and asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic DRUJ arthritides undergoing TWA alone, 10% in this series required subsequent surgical management for progressive DRUJ arthritis. Clinical Relevance Surgical management of concomitant symptomatic RC and asymptomatic/minimally symptomatic DRUJ arthritides with TWA alone is a reasonable initial approach. Patients should be counseled preoperatively that subsequent surgical management of progressive DRUJ arthritis may be necessary in ∼10% of patients. Metacarpal Shortening with Intramedullary Screw Fixation: A Cadaveric Study
Conclusion The fully threaded nail demonstrates less shortening and possibly minimizes overshortening of fractures compared with partially threaded and fully threaded screw designs. Overshortening cannot be corrected by unscrewing the screw unless completely removed from the distal fragment. Clinical Relevance Orthopaedic surgeons may select intermedullary screws based on the design that is suited for the particular metacarpal fracture pattern. The Lateral-W Construct: An Anatomical Variant of the Dorsal Wrist Ligaments
J Wrist Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0042-1758706 Background The dorsal intercarpal ligament (DIC) is an elegant dorsal stabilizer of the proximal carpal row, including the scaphoid's proximal pole and scapholunate joint. Along with the dorsal radiocarpal (DRC) ligament, it acts as a dorsal radioscaphoid stabilizer, with dynamism due to its ability to modify its length up to threefold by changing the angles between its V-shaped bundle morphology. The DIC ligament consistently originates from the dorsal tubercle of the triquetrum on the ulnar side. It spans transversely, attaching to the dorsal groove of the scaphoid (97–10...

Comparison of Outcomes of Scapholunate Ligament Reconstruction Techniques
Conclusion Existing data demonstrate some benefit of bone-tissue-bone reconstruction over capsulodesis and tenodesis in pain reduction and functional improvement of the injured wrist. No statistically significant differences among radiographic outcomes could be ascertained, possibly attributable to the heterogeneity of procedures. This review provides an updated reference and highlights the need for multicenter trials with longer term follow-up and more standardized outcome measures.
