General Surgery Resident Participation in a Mandatory Wellness Program: Six Years Later
Following the approval of a resident-created physician wellness program in 2016, an initial survey demonstrated majority support for the implementation of a mandatory curriculum. The purpose of this study is to survey surgical residents about the wellness curriculum six  years after implementation and re-evaluate preference for mandatory participation. Resveratrol Promotes Diabetic Wound Healing by Inhibiting Notch Pathway
Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a severe complication that threatens the daily lives of patients with diabetes and represents a serious challenge to the global health system. Considering that impaired wound healing is the leading cause of DFU, exploring the mechanism of diabetic wound healing is beneficial for improving DFU treatment. Resveratrol (RES) is a native polyphenol with various pharmacological characteristics, and recent studies have indicated an accelerated function of RES in diabetic wound healing. A Multi-Institutional Study Comparing Stoma Location in Neonates With Intestinal Perforation
Neonates with intestinal perforation often require laparotomy and intestinal stoma creation, with the stoma placed in either the laparotomy incision or a separate site. We aimed to investigate if stoma location is associated with risk of postoperative wound complications. (Source: Journal of Surgical Research)

Systematic Literature Review of Health-Related Quality-of-Life Measures for Caregivers of Older Adult Trauma Patients
As the older adult population increases, hospitals treat more older adults with injuries. After leaving, these patients suffer from decreased mobility and independence, relying on care from others. Family members often assume this responsibility, mostly informally and unpaid. Caregivers of other older adult populations have increased stress and decreased caregiver-related quality of life (CRQoL). Validated CRQoL measures are essential to capture their unique experiences. Our objective was to review existing CRQoL measures and their validity in caregivers of older adult trauma patients. (Source: Journal of Surgical Research)

Pathophysiology and Management of Postoperative Ileus in Adults and Neonates: A Review
Postoperative ileus (POI) is caused by enteric neural dysfunction and inflammatory response to the stress of surgery as well as the effect of anesthetics and opioid pain medications. POI results in prolonged hospital stays, increased medical costs, and diminished enteral nutrition, rendering it a problem worth tackling. Many cellular pathways are implicated in this disease process, creating numerous opportunities for targeted management strategies. There is a gap in the literature in studies exploring neonatal POI pathophysiology and treatment options. (Source: Journal of Surgical Research)

Evaluation of Induction Immunosuppression and Risk of Incisional Hernia After Liver Transplantation
Liver transplantation (LT) is a technically complex operation and usually performed on ill patients. A major postoperative morbidity is incisional hernia, occurring in 9.5%-32.4% of cases. There are mixed results in transplant studies regarding potential risk factors. Additionally, the literature is lacking in the relationship between specific immunosuppressive induction agents administered during LT and postoperative incisional hernia. Letter Regarding: “Alcohol-Containing Versus Aqueous-Based Solutions for Skin Preparation in Abdominal Surgery”
We read with great interest the recent article by Peristeri et  al. titled "Alcohol-Containing versus Aqueous-Based Solutions for Skin Preparation in Abdominal Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis" published in the Journal of Surgical Research.1 Through a meta-analysis of 11 randomized controlled trials involving 12,072 participants undergoing abdomi nal surgery, the authors assessed the efficacy of alcohol-based chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) versus aqueous povidone-iodine (PVI) in preventing surgical site infections (SSIs). Pooled Analysis of Trauma Centers Better Predicts Risk Factors for Firearm Violence Reinjury
Many trauma centers use the first firearm injury admission as a reachable moment to mitigate reinjury. Understanding repeat firearm violence can be difficult in metropolitan areas with multiple trauma centers and laws that prohibit sharing private health information across health systems. We hypothesized that risk factors for repeat firearm violence could be better understood using pooled data from two major metropolitan trauma centers. (Source: Journal of Surgical Research)
