Peer Support to Promote Surgeon Well-Being: The APSA Program Experience
Peer support programs have evolved to train physicians to provide outreach and emotional first aid to their colleagues when they experience the inevitable challenge of a serious adverse event, whether or not it is related to a medical error. Most pediatric surgeons have experienced the trauma of a medical error, yet, in a survey of APSA membership, almost half said that no one reached out to them, and few were satisfied with their institution ’s response to the error. Thus, the APSA Wellness Committee developed an APSA-based peer support program to meet this need. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

Functional Outcomes of Patients Who Underwent Anorectal Malformation Repair Using MRI Guidance
In this study, we evaluate the functional outcomes of a procedure in which magnetic resonance imaging guidance is used during initial laparoscopic repair to better locate the epicenter of the sphincter muscle complex and pelvic floor with the goal of more accurate placement of the neoanus and improved functional outcomes. BLADDER Neck Surgery IS NOT Routinely Needed to Achieve URINARY CONTINENCE in PATIENTS WITH PRIMARY Epispadias
This study aims at investigating the continence outcome in primary epispadias patients treated at a tertiary center. The authors hypothesized that additional continence procedures following primary epispadias repair is not routinely needed. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

The History and Legacy of the Foker Process for the Treatment of Long Gap Esophageal Atresia
Historically, children afflicted with long gap esophageal atresia (LGEA) had few options, either esophageal replacement or a life of gastrostomy feeds. In 1997, John Foker from Minnesota revolutionized the treatment of LGEA. His new procedure focused on “traction-induced growth” when the proximal and distal esophageal segments were too far apart for primary repair. Foker’s approach involved placement of pledgeted sutures on both esophageal pouches connected to an externalized traction system which could be serially tightened, allowing for ten sion-induced esophageal growth and a delayed primary repair. Characteristics and clinical outcomes of children with Wilms ’ tumour: A 15-year experience in a single centre in Nigeria
Wilms' tumor (WT) is the most common paediatric renal tumor and is one of the most treatment-responsive solid tumours. Survival from Wilms tumour (WT) in sub-Saharan Africa remains dismal as a result of late presentation, treatment abandonment and infrastructure deficit. The purpose of this study was to analyze the clinical outcome of children with Wilms tumour managed in a Nigerian referral centre over a 15-year period. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)
