Cervical Collar-Associated Pressure Injury in Pediatric Trauma Patients: A Western Pediatric Surgery Research Consortium Study
Healthcare-associated pressure injuries (HAPI) are known to be associated with medical devices and are preventable. Cervical spine immobilization is commonly utilized in injured children prior to clinical clearance or for treatment of an unstable cervical spinal injury. The frequency of HAPI has been quantified in adults with cervical spine immobilization but has not been well-described in children. The aim of this study was to describe characteristics of children who developed HAPI associated with cervical immobilization. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

Endoscopic chemocauterization with trichloroacetic acid for congenital or recurrent tracheoesophageal fistula in children with esophageal atresia: Experience from a tertiary center
Recurrent tracheoesophageal fistula (rTEF) is a well-known complication after surgery of EA, occurring in roughly 3-10% of the patients. Recent studies have highlighted safety and efficacy of endoscopic management of recurrent TEF. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of chemocauterization with trichloroacetic acid (TCA) in rTEF and congenital tracheoesophageal fistula (cTEF). Rectovaginal Fistulas: Comparative Analysis of Laparoscopic Assisted Pullthrough and Posterior Sagittal Anorectoplasty
Compare the laparoscopic treatment (LT) and the posterior sagittal anorectoplasty treatment (ST) of the rectovaginal fistulas (RvaF) in a single center. We have previously reported feasibility and results of LT in this rare variety of anorectal malformations (ARM). [1] [3] (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery for Renal stones: Is it a Safe and Effective Option in Preschool children?
Few studies in the literature describe the Retrograde Intra-Renal Surgery (RIRS) outcome in preschool children. We evaluated the feasibility, stone-free rate and complications of RIRS in preschool children at two European tertiary care centres of Pediatric Urology. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

Long-Term Sensory Function 3 years after Minimally Invasive Repair of Pectus Excavatum with Cryoablation
Minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum (MIRPE) with intercostal nerve cryoablation (Cryo) decreases length of hospitalization and opioid use, but long-term recovery of sensation has been poorly described. The purpose of this study was to quantify long-term hypoesthesia and neuropathic pain after MIRPE with Cryo. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

Use of Staged vs. primary Repair in Thoracoscopic esophageal Atresia Repair
Morbidity after thoracoscopic primary repair of esophageal atresia (EA) is still high in many centers. We retrospectively assessed the outcomes of a center-specific standardized approach in a group of newborns with EA that had been classified into one of two surgical management groups. Creation of Three-Dimensional Anatomic Models in Pediatric Surgical Patients Using Cross-Sectional Imaging: A Demonstration of Low-Cost Methods and Applications
Pediatric surgery patients often present with complex congenital anomalies or other conditions requiring deep understanding of their intricate anatomy. Commercial applications and services exist for the conversion of cross-sectional imaging data into three-dimensional (3D) models for education and preoperative planning. However, the associated costs and lack of familiarity may discourage their use in centers with limited resources. The purpose of this report is to present a low-cost, reproducible method for generating 3D images to visualize patient anatomy. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)
