Letter to the Editor in Response to: Risk Factors for Preoperative Pneumothorax in Neonates with Isolated Left-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia: An International Cohort Study
We read with interest the article by Masahata, et al, (1) that explores the risk factors for preoperative pneumothorax (PTX) in newborns with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). While we commend the authors for their comprehensive analysis of a substantial dataset, we are compelled to underscore certain aspects of their results that must be accounted for while interpreting their findings. Letter to the Editor in Response to: “Recent Advancements in Pectus Surgery: Crane Lifting, Multiple-Bar Approach, Bridge Stabilization, and Sandwich Technique”
I am writing to offer my thoughts on the article titled “Recent Advancements in Pectus Surgery: Crane Lifting, Multiple-Bar Approach, Bridge Stabilization, and Sandwich Technique” recently published in your esteemed journal [1]. The study presented a comprehensive analysis of a novel procedure for pectus excavatum repair, which involves crane-powered entire chest wall remodeling, employing crane lifting, a multiple-bar approach, bridge stabilization, and sandwich techniques. Letter to the Editor in Response to: What Proportion of Children with Complex Oesophageal Atresia Require Oesophageal Lengthening Procedures?
We read with interest Phillips and Jaffray ’s article on success of delayed primary anastomosis (DPA) for complex oesophageal atresia (OA)[1]. While we value the ‘words of caution’ regarding adoption of novel procedures, the manuscript is biased. For debate, one must consider the merits and drawbacks of DPA and traction for challenging cases of OA. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

Long-term airway outcomes and interventions in children with oesophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula: A 20-year single centre observational study
Airway anomalies, symptoms and interventions are commonly reported in children with oesophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula (OA/TOF). The purpose of this study was to assess the incidence of these airway pathologies and those requiring interventions in the long-term. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

Knowing your patient population: Techniques to capture infants at high risk for physical abuse in a trauma registry
Physical abuse is a major public health concern and a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in infants. Clinical decision tools derived from trauma registries can facilitate timely risk-stratification. The Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) database does not report age for children (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

UROLOGICAL Outcomes in POST-PUBERTAL PATIENTS WITH Myelomeningocele: A SINGLE-CENTER Retrospective Study
Recent decades have seen changes in the urological treatment of myelomeningocele (MMC). We aimed to evaluate the urological outcomes in post-pubertal patients and to clarify associations with walking status, hydrocephalus, and sex. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

The Impact of Educational Materials on Parental Anxiety and Productivity: A Clinical Trial in Pediatric Appendicitis
There is limited literature on how acute appendicitis, the most common acute children ’s surgical illness, affects the family. We conducted a prospective study to assess the impact of educational materials on parents' anxiety and productivity during the child’s illness. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

Decreased β-catenin protein in lungs from human congenital diaphragmatic hernia archival pathology specimens: A case-control study
Lung hypoplasia contributes to congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) associated morbidity and mortality. Changes in lung wingless-type MMTV integration site family member (Wnt)-signalling and its downstream effector beta-catenin (CTNNB1), which acts as a transcription coactivator, exist in animal CDH models but are not well characterized in humans. We aim to identify changes to Wnt-signalling gene expression in human CDH lungs and hypothesize that pathway expression will be lower than controls. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

Provincial review of adherence to age-specific guidelines for umbilical hernia repair and trends in management
Umbilical hernia (UH) is a common pediatric condition, for which delaying surgical repair for asymptomatic UH until after age 3 is recommended due to a high incidence of spontaneous closure. We aimed to determine the adherence to guidelines, rate of urgent surgical repair, outcomes, cost, and interinstitutional referral patterns of UH repair in the province of Quebec (Canada).
