Perioperative optimization and management of the oral and maxillofacial surgical patient: A narrative review on updates in anticoagulation, hypertension and diabetes medications
The preoperative management guidelines of surgical patients are constantly evolving as newer evidence-based research is published. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons need to be current with the increasingly more complex new drug therapies and updated national association(s) guidelines. This narrative review provides a synopsis with important reference tables for updated preoperative optimization guidelines for anticoagulation, antiplatelet therapy, antihypertensive management, and glycemic control in the preoperative period for the oral and maxillofacial surgery patient. Can a single-stage approach using a dermal regeneration template lead to satisfactory scalp defect reconstruction after skin cancer excision?
Large-defect reconstructive surgeries for skin cancer can be performed using different approaches. Integra ® Dermal Regeneration Template (DRT, Integra Life Sciences, Princeton, New Jersey, The United States) is a membrane utilized to fill skin defects, followed by second-stage surgery with a full-thickness skin graft (FTSG) or flap. Is Bipolar Radiofrequency-Assisted Liposuction Equivalent to Open Anterior Platysmaplasty in Facelift Surgery?
During facelift surgery, anterior platysmaplasty (AP) has been used for decades, but it limits lateral advancement and can induce contour irregularities. Radiofrequency (RF)-assisted-liposuction in the anterior neck can avoid these disadvantages by tightening skin without open surgery. (Source: Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)
