Surgical resection and reconstruction of ameloblastoma: a 13-year retrospective review
Ameloblastoma is a locally aggressive, benign tumor presenting in the maxilla and mandible prone to recurrence. Resection greatly limits recurrence, however, reconstruction becomes critical to preserve patients ’ functionality and aesthetics. (Source: Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

The Preventive Effect of Preoperative and Postoperative Selenium on the Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw: An Animal Study in Rats
Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a condition that can occur primarily in patients undergoing or have previously undergone therapy with bisphosphonates, particularly in the presence of risk factors, such as tooth extraction (TE). Pressure Infusor Assisted Arthrocentesis
Temporomandibular joint internal disorders commonly present with limited mouth opening and pain. Treatment options range from invasive surgical procedures to minimally invasive interventions. This technical note aims to introduce a modification to the arthrocentesis technique in which a pressure infusion cuff (VBM Classic Infusor, Medizintechnik GmbH, Germany) is used for irrigation instead of syringes or peristaltic pumps. A pressure infusion cuff (bag) is an inflatable bag with a hand pump and a sphygmomanometer that allows monitorization of the pressure, and it is intended to apply pressure on I.V. Are deep odontogenic infections associated with an increased risk for sepsis?
Quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) is recommended to identify sepsis. Odontogenic infection (OI) can progress to sepsis, causing systematic inflammatory complications or organ failure. (Source: Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Is Diclofenac Transbuccal Mucoadhesive Patch Superior to Oral Diclofenac for the Management of Postoperative Sequelae After Third Molar Surgery?
Pain, swelling, and trismus are the most common sequalae following the surgical removal of mandibular third molars. They pose significant challenges for clinicians, prompting the exploration of efficacious management approaches. (Source: Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

What is the relationship between maxillofacial injury location and associated injuries?
Patients sustaining maxillofacial fractures are at risk for associated injuries to other body regions. The incidence of associated injuries (AIs) is reported to be from 20 to 35%. AIs may be life-threating and play a key role in considering first-line management at the emergency department, as well as planning the definitive treatment of maxillofacial fractures. An old technique as an alternative to coronectomy in lower third molar surgery: extraction!
In 1992 Freedmann1 published the first case study on the intentional sectioning of the lower third molar as an alternative to surgical extraction. From that moment on, the international literature began to produce studies on this technique, currently called coronectomy, a technique which involves technical requirements to succeed. Leaving the apical portion of the root of a tooth aside has already been proposed in the past as a possible solution in the event of an intraoperative root fracture with very specific indications and contraindications which partially overlap with those defined for coronectomy (Table 1). Promoting Responsible Antibiotic Usage in Dental Implant Procedures
Antibiotic prophylaxis in the context of dental implant procedures has been a matter of controversy. The use of antibiotics as a preventive measure aims to minimize the risk of postoperative infections associated with implant placement. 1 While there is a consensus on the importance of preventing infections, the specific protocols for antibiotic prophylaxis have been a matter of debate. Antibiotics may lead to a variety of side effects, from diarrhoea to life-threatening allergic reactions. Moreover, the extensive use of antibiotics is associated with the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. (Source: Journal of Oral and ...

Guidelines for the Management of Patients with Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders
The management of patients with orofacial pain and temporomandibular disorders is challenging. Recognizing the opportunity to advance patient care, in 2019 the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) convened representatives from the Food and Drug Administration, Medical Device Epidemiology Network (MDEpiNet), patient advocacy groups, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and orofacial pain experts to identify specific steps to improve care for patients. In response, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) created the Special Committee on Temporomandibular Joint Care (SCTMJC)...
