Oral Trichogranuloma in an Asian 12-Year-Old Female With Trichotillomania
We report an unusual case of acquired pilonidal sinus as a consequence of the unconscious habit of chewing on the hairs in a 12-year-old girl. Although most commonly located in the gluteal cleft, it has been reported in several areas of the body (including face), but to the best of our knowledge, this is the first report in the oral cavity. Occurrence and predictors of postoperative preauricular and masticatory muscle pain symptoms after surgical removal of third molars: A single-blind randomized controlled trial comparing dental assistants supporting the mandible and the Restful Jaw device
During third molar removal, the mandible is supported by a dental assistant (DA) to counter downward forces during surgery, and with sedation, to maintain airway patency. The Restful Jaw ® device (PEP Design; Saint Paul) provides this support instead of the DA. (Source: Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

RE: Are social media platforms appropriate sources of information for patients regarding the topic of facial trauma?
I read with interest the recent publication in the JOMS entitled “Are social media platforms appropriate sources of information for patients regarding the topic of facial trauma?” by Erguven et al.1 (Source: Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Reply: Are Social Media Platforms Appropriate Sources of Information for Patients Regarding the Topic of Facial Trauma?
We thank Dr Sahni for reading our article titled “Are social media platforms appropriate sources of information for patients regarding the topic of facial trauma?”1 and highlighting several points to consider for future studies. It is essential for organizations or authoritative health partners to take adequate measures to improve quality of h ealth-care information on social media platforms.2 As you mentioned, valuable initiatives are being taken to improve the quality and reliability of health-related content on social media platforms. Research Literacy for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons: Why Is It Important and How Can We Do Better?
Recognition of the importance of rigorous research methods used in basic, translational, and clinical research in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) has increased. As the quantity of peer-reviewed publications in OMS continues to expand, so too has the complexity of the research methods and statistical tools employed by investigators.1 New research approaches such as mixed-methods studies, which contain both quantitative and qualitative data, require updated guidelines for inclusion in the literature. Re: do antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and low-level laxer therapy influence oral health-related quality of life after molar extraction?
We were greatly interested in the article by Souza et  al that reports the benefits of health-related quality of life (HRQL) after molar extraction with the use of combined antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and low-level laser therapy.1 We would like to commend the authors on their choice to exclude use of antibiotics in the last 3 months. We agree that this exclusion could influence the results of their research. In our opinion, however, some critical aspects in their paper should be pointed out. Craniomaxillofacial Reconstructive Surgery Track: Extremities Soft Tissue Reconstruction: Expansion of the Role of OMFS in Level 1 Trauma Centers
With successful outcomes in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery, the scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery has expanded significantly in the last two decades. The OMFS microvascular reconstructive surgeon has gained extensive training and experience from harvesting free flaps from the extremities, particularly with respect to the complex anatomy of the extremities. Traumatic injuries to the upper and lower extremities that require soft tissue coverage comprise a significant challenge to the trauma team. (Source: Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)
