Variations in Criteria for Eligibility Determination for Early Intervention Services with a Focus on Eligibility for Children with Neonatal Complications
Conclusion: Providers working in neonatal follow-up clinics should be carefully educated about the eligibility criteria and approved tests for assessing development in the states in which they practice, recognizing that there is obvious and significant variability across states. Dopamine Functioning and Child Externalizing Behavior: A Longitudinal Analysis of Polygenic Susceptibility to Parenting
Conclusion: The results indicate that not only are children with higher but also lower scores on the polygenic index sensitive to parenting, they suggest that different phenotypical characteristics related to reward processing might underlie these genetic susceptibilities to parenting practices. Intergenerational Effects of Maternal Childhood Experiences on Maternal Parenting and Infant Developmental Progress
Conclusion: Parenting behaviors in 1 generation influence parenting behaviors in the next, which has implications for infant developmental progress. The results may inform evidence-based preventive interventions for mothers and infants living in contexts of risk. (Source: Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics)

Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms in Mothers and Fathers of Very Preterm Infants Over the First 2 Years
This study aimed to assess PTSSs in mothers and fathers of VPT infants over the first 2 years of life, including changes over time and relationship with medical and social risk. Method: A longitudinal, prospective, cohort study of PTSSs in parents of VPT infants. PTSS was assessed at term equivalent age (TEA) and 12 and 24 months using the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist Specific Version. Pediatric Anxiety in Practice: A Knowledge and Needs Assessment of Pediatricians and Nurses
Conclusion: Primary care providers reported that a substantial proportion of the patients they see struggle with anxiety. PCPs also reported a growing need for training in how to assess, treat, and refer anxious youth. This needs assessment supports a need for the development of easily accessible training and resources for PCPs to better support their pediatric patients. Screening for Autism Spectrum Disorder in High-Risk Younger Siblings
Conclusion: The findings suggest that the M-CHAT-R/F can distinguish between ASD and non-ASD at 18 to 24 months in an HR sibling sample, with performance comparable with or better than its performance in the general population. (Source: Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics)

Behavioral Health Screening: Validation of a Strength-Based Approach
ABSTRACT: Objective: To evaluate the validity of the Behavioral Health Checklist (BHCL) strength-based factor scores and the extent to which this factor has a buffering effect on the relationship between behavioral health symptom severity and children's social problems. Method: The parents of 1,392 children aged 4 to 12 completed the BHCL and Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) during sick and well-child visits to urban and suburban primary care practices affiliated with a large children's hospital. Results: Findings support a single, strength-based factor on the BHCL, and the structure was largely invariant across r...

Social Determinants of Health and the Role of Routine Pediatric Care in a Medically Complex Toddler
CASE: Late on a Friday afternoon, a new family presents to your practice for urgent care. They come with their youngest child Mai, a 2-year-old girl, who, although born in the United States at 36 weeks gestation, has resided in Laos with her grandparents for the past 16 months. Your triage nurse tells you that she has a fever and was found to have profound anemia while at the WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) office earlier today. On walking into the room, you describe Mai as “listless” and “sickly.” Her vitals were notable for fever (102°F), tachycardia (140 beats pe...

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Outcome After Concussion: A Systematic Review
Conclusion: There is not a clear association between ADHD and worse clinical outcome from concussion. However, eligible studies had limitations in research design, and nearly all studies were underpowered and evaluated the association between ADHD and concussion outcome as a secondary focus rather than the primary research question, precluding definitive conclusions. The association between ADHD and clinical outcomes remains unclear, and future research specifically examining ADHD and concussion recovery is needed. Efficacy of Guanfacine Extended Release in Children and Adolescents with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Comorbid Oppositional Defiant Disorder
ABSTRACT: Objective: To assess the efficacy of the non-stimulant guanfacine extended release (GXR) on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in children and adolescents, with and without comorbid oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Methods: Data were derived from 4 phase 3, randomized, placebo-controlled trials of dose-optimized GXR monotherapy, in which at least 10% of participants had a diagnosis of comorbid ODD. SPD503-312 and SPD503-316 were 10- to 13-week studies of GXR (1–7 mg/d). SPD503-314 and SPD503-307 were 8-week studies of GXR (1–4 mg/d). Efficacy was assessed using the ADHD Rating...
