Treatment effect modifiers in a randomized trial of the good behavior game during middle childhood.
Conclusions: These findings highlight the importance of optimizing implementation and demonstrate the utility of CRE as a theoretically informed approach to subgroup moderator analysis. Implications are discussed and study strengths and limitations are noted. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved) (Source: Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology)

Economic evaluation of an online single-session intervention for depression in Kenyan adolescents.
Conclusions: Shamiri-Digital is a low-cost intervention for reducing depression symptomatology. The public health benefit of empirically supported SSIs is especially important in low-income countries, where funding for mental health care is most limited. Future research can compare the cost-effectiveness of online SSIs to higher-cost treatments and estimate the robustness of Shamiri-Digital’s effects over a longer time horizon. Condition or cognition? Mechanism of change in fatigue in a randomized controlled trial of graded exercise therapy or cognitive behavior therapy for severe fatigue in patients with advanced cancer.
Conclusions: The effect of CBT was attributable to changes in cognition, that is, increased self-efficacy led to reduced fatigue severity. No significant mediators for GET were found. The findings inform further refinement of interventions for fatigue in this seriously ill population. Therapist adaptations to evidence-based practices and associations with implementation outcomes in child therapy sessions.
Conclusions: Findings suggest that Modifying Presentation adaptations, associated with higher extensiveness, involved creative use of activities and materials, language modification, and personalization of EBP content to meet clients’ diverse needs, whereas Extending adaptations, associated with lower extensiveness, involved slowing EBP pacing in response to client challenges. Implications for provider training are discussed. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved) (Source: Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology)

Personalizing interventions using real-world interactions: Improving symptoms and social functioning in schizophrenia with tailored metacognitive therapy.
Conclusions: Compared to an evidence-based benchmark, we observed that real-world interactions can be used to tailor metacognitive therapy and improve outcomes in schizophrenia. Tailored MERIT has the potential to impact practice by personalizing treatment to account for individual variations in environment and lifestyle—aligning with the Precision Medicine Initiative—in a way that is not possible with current therapy. This is particularly salient in schizophrenia, where limited insight and cognitive deficits often make subjective reporting unreliable. Correction to Lehavot et al. (2021).
Conclusions: Both DESTRESS–WV and phone monitoring resulted in significant improvements in women Veterans’ PTSD symptoms. DESTRESS–WV may be an appropriate care model for women Veterans who can engage in the demands of the treatment and have higher baseline symptoms. Future research should explore characteristics of and the methods of reliably identifying women Veterans who are most likely to benefit. A controlled trial of two mind–body interventions for grief in widows and widowers.
Conclusions: Results support the feasibility and acceptability of MT and PMR for widow(er)s as well as the preliminary efficacy of PMR for improving grief severity in widow(er)s compared to a wait-list control condition. With replication, PMR could be a standalone intervention for non-disordered grief or a component of treatment for disordered grief. A randomized trial comparing group mindfulness-based cognitive therapy with group supportive sex education and therapy for the treatment of female sexual interest/arousal disorder.
Conclusions: Results support the efficacy of both group MBCT and group supportive sex education for improving symptoms of SIAD with 12-month retention of improvements. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved) (Source: Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology)

Effects of methylphenidate on cognitive functions in boys with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: Does baseline performance matter?
Conclusions: We conclude that MPH can enhance executive functioning, visual memory, reaction time, and general cognitive function in boys with ADHD. These improvements are not dependent on baseline cognitive performance. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved) (Source: Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology)

Main outcomes of M-bridge: A sequential multiple assignment randomized trial (SMART) for developing an adaptive preventive intervention for college drinking.
Conclusions: Although overall effects were not significant, students at high risk (i.e., entering fraternities/sororities) did benefit more from the intervention. Furthermore, the resource email was effective for heavier drinkers. A technology-based strategy to deliver targeted resource-light interventions for heavy drinkers may be effective for reducing binge drinking during the transition to college. Cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation and cognitive-behavioral therapy in the treatment of adult depression: A network meta-analysis.
Conclusions: Results suggest that CR or BA alone and their combination (CBT) may be effective interventions in comparison to WL and CAU in the treatment of adult depression. There was no evidence suggesting differences in effectiveness among the three treatments. More research is needed to derive conclusions about the performance of CR. Tracking positive and negative affect in PTSD inpatients during a service dog intervention.
Though popular across many audiences, engagement with a service dog has undergone limited empirical evaluation as a complementary or alternative treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The present study took advantage of a service dog training intervention underway in a Department of Veterans Affairs residential PTSD treatment program to perform a within-subjects comparison of a range of phenotypic markers. The present report considers negative and positive affect, assessed throughout the day, contrasting weeks when participants were or were not accompanied by their service dog. Fifty-four veterans were studied...

A randomized controlled trial of the Transdiagnostic Intervention for Sleep and Circadian Dysfunction (TranS-C) to improve serious mental illness outcomes in a community setting.
Objective: To determine if the Transdiagnostic Intervention for Sleep and Circadian Dysfunction (TranS-C) improves functional impairment, psychiatric symptoms, and sleep and circadian functioning. Method: Adults diagnosed with serious mental illness (SMI) and sleep and circadian dysfunction (N = 121) were randomly allocated to TranS-C plus usual care (TranS-C + UC; n = 61; 8 individual weekly sessions) or 6 months of Usual Care followed by Delayed Treatment with TranS-C (UC-DT; n = 60). Schizophrenia (45%) and anxiety disorders (47%) were common. Blind assessments were conducted pre-treatment, post-treatment, and 6 months ...

Exploring the relations between interpersonal risk and adolescent suicidality during treatment.
Conclusions: In the first half of treatment, baseline PB predicted fewer reductions in SI suggesting that PB initially moderated adolescents’ response to treatment. However, in the last half of treatment, initial reductions in SI predicted subsequent reductions in PB suggesting that adolescents’ initial response to treatment decreased their perceptions of burdening others. The clinical and treatment implications of these bidirectional findings are discussed.
