Differences of RUNX2 gene promoter methylation and transcription level in ankylosing spondylitis
ConclusionThe RUNX2 gene promoter was hypomethylated in AS patients. Meanwhile, the qRT-PCR verified the up-regulated expression on the transcription level, suggesting the abnormal methylation of RUNX2 contributes to the pathogenesis of AS. (Source: International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases)

Impact of obesity and overweight on C ‐reactive protein concentrations and disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionCRP tends to be elevated in female patients with RA that have a higher BMI. Further research is required to assess this possible sex-related difference and to aid shared decision-making in order to avoid over-treatment and increased burden in patients with obesity and RA.PROSPERO registration number: CRD42022314580. The role of plateletcrit in Takayasu arteritis: A potential biomarker for disease activity and 6 ‐month treatment response
ConclusionPlateletcrit levels were positively related to disease activity and inflammatory index in TAK. Importantly, patients with high baseline plateletcrit levels may show a worse treatment response at 6  months. (Source: International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases)

The causality between gut microbiota and ankylosing spondylitis: Insights from a bidirectional two ‐sample Mendelian randomization analysis
ConclusionOur study has established a genetically-based causal relationship between gut microbiota and AS. This finding suggests that we may be able to target and regulate specific bacterial groups in the gut to prevent and treat AS. (Source: International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases)

Characteristics of race/ethnicity in trials leading to anti ‐rheumatic drug approval for inflammatory arthritis by the US Food and Drug Administration
ConclusionsDespite many efforts to eliminate racial/ethnic disparities, the Black was consistently underrepresented in pivotal clinical trials compared to the 2020 US national race/ethnicity distribution data. The White was consistently overrepresented, and the Hispanic presented heterogeneous results. No evident time trend was observed. (Source: International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases)

Thrombotic microangiopathy in a patient with anti ‐signal recognition particle antibody‐positive immune‐mediated necrotizing myopathy
We describe the case of a 61-year-old woman with anti-signal recognition particle (SRP) antibody-positive immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) who exhibited biopsy-confirmed thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA). The patient developed proximal-dominant muscle weakness and was diagnosed with anti-SRP antibody-positive IMNM based on muscle biopsy results and serological examination. A high-dose corticosteroid prescription was initiated, followed by intravenous methylprednisolone and intravenous immunoglobulin therapy (IVIg). The patient showed IVIg-induced hemolytic anemia with preserved ADAMTS13 activity. Transient oral t...
