Evaluation on mortality predictors after emergent percutaneous coronary intervention in acute myocardial infarction with ventricular arrhythmias: Details not to be ignored?
We have read the article “Predictors of 30-day survival after emergent percutaneous coronary intervention following ventricular tachyarrhythmias complicating acute myocardial infarction” by Kohei Ukita et al [1]. In the study Immediate CPR and single-vessel CAD were significant predictors of 30-day survival after emerge nt PCI following VF or pulseless VT complicating AMI in patients . In univariate analysis, absence of diabetes and low arterial lactate value were associated with 30-day survival. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Prognostic performance of soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor for heart failure or mortality in Western and Asian patients with acute breathlessness
The performance of circulating soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) for predicting the composite endpoint of subsequent heart failure (HF) hospitalisation and/or death at 1  year was assessed in (i) patients with undifferentiated breathlessness, and generalisability was compared in (ii) disparate Western versus Asian sub-cohorts, and in (iii) the sub-cohort adjudicated with HF. Comparison of electrographic changes, clinical features and outcomes in different variants of Takotsubo syndrom
Dysfunction of the left ventricular (LV) apex (apical variant) is the most common form in Takotsubo syndrome (TS). Several less common non-apical variants have been described – mid-ventricular, basal and focal. We hypothesised that the clinical presentation, and electrocardiographic (ECG) findings may vary between apical and non-apical TS. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Incidence of atrial fibrillation in patients with renal infarction: A retrospective cohort analysis of the Korean national health insurance registry
Regarding the pathophysiology of renal infarction (RI), cardioembolic causes could have large proportion. However, there are notable variations in prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) among patients with RI across different studies, ranging from 17 to 65%. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the incidence of AF in patients with RI. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Psychosocial distress and health status as risk factors for ten-year major adverse cardiac events and mortality in patients with non-obstructive coronary artery disease
We examined the risk of psychosocial distress, including Type D personality, depressive symptoms, anxiety, positive mood, hostility, and health status fatigue and disease specific and generic quality of life for MACE in patients with non-obstructive coronary artery disease (NOCAD). Effects of tricuspid edge-to-edge repair beyond leaflet approximation: Evidence for indirect tricuspid annuloplasty
Despite knowledge of poor prognosis of patients suffering from moderate or severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR), this condition has long been neglected, mostly because it has been attributed to comorbidities and also because outcome of surgical repair was disappointing [1]. The introduction of percutaneous therapies, namely transcatheter edge-to-edge repair, initially as compassionate use of the MitraClip and later with the TriClip or the PASCAL devices or direct annuloplasty with the Cardioband and most recently transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement with the Evoque system have drawn enormous attention to the tricuspid ...

Development and external validation of a nomogram for predicting short-term prognosis in patients with acute pulmonary embolism
Accurate assessment and timely intervention play a crucial role in ameliorating poor short-term prognosis of acute pulmonary embolism (APE) patients. The currently employed scoring models exhibit a degree of complexity, and some models may not comprehensively incorporate relevant indicators, thereby imposing limitations on the evaluative efficacy. Our study aimed to construct and externally validate a nomogram that predicts 30-day all-cause mortality risk in APE patients. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Bi-directional association of body size and composition with heart failure: A Mendelian randomization study
The effect of obesity on the development of heart failure (HF) has received attention, and this study intends to further explore the bidirectional association between body size or composition and HF by using Mendelian Randomization (MR) approach. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Surveillance of adults with congenital heart disease: Current guidelines and actual clinical practice
Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common birth defect with prevalence of 0.8%. Thanks to tremendous progress in medical and surgical practice, nowadays,>90% of children survive into adulthood. Recently European Society of Cardiology (ESC), American College of Cardiology (ACC)/ American Heart Association (AHA) issued guidelines which offer diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations for the different defect categories. However, the type of technical exams and their frequency of follow-up may vary largely between clinicians and centres. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Editorial on Bellino et al., “Aortopathy and aortic valve surgery in patients with bicuspid aortic valve with and without raphe”
In this issue of the IJC, Bellino et al. report on the outcomes of a multicenter bicuspid aortopathy cohort stratified by the presence or absence of a visible raphe [1]. About 75% of bicuspid aortic valves (BAV) have a prominent fibrous ridge of tissue at the site of cusp fusion known as a raphe. In the international classification system for BAV, ‘2-sinus’ valves that do not have any raphe tissue at all are said to comprise only 5–7% of cases [2]. In other cases, the raphe may be small or difficult to visualize due to lack of calcification or partial cusp fusion [3]. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Anticoagulation in ACHD: The difficult journey toward evidences between analogy and incompleteness
David Sakett, wrote in his manifesto that ‘evidence based medicine is the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients’ [1]. From that time, thousands of patients have been enrolled in randomized controlled trials generating evidences that are the framework on which medical decisions are made. Likewise modern physicians, that have been nourished by the dream of bringing libraries to bedside in a rationale and fruitful way, we are committed to extrapolate in a unbiased way evidences from general models of acquired conditions to congenital he...
