Prognosis and antithrombotic practice patterns in patients with recurrent and transient atrial fibrillation following acute coronary syndrome: A nationwide study
First-time detected atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with aggravated prognosis in patients admitted with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Yet, among patients surviving beyond one year after ACS, it remains unclear how the recurrence of AF within the initial year after ACS affects the risk of stroke. Edmonton frail scale in TAVI patients: A new tool for frailty assessment and outcomes prediction
In this issue of the IJC, the manuscript by Holierook et al. - “Higher Edmonton Frail Scale prior to Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation is related to longer hospital stay and mortality”, reinforces the importance of standardizing frailty assessment within the pre-procedural evaluation of severe aortic stenosis patients, as it helps to stratify risk of adverse outcomes. Targeting Dickkopf-1 in heart disease
We eagerly read the study authored by Xu [1] and his colleagues, ‘The predictive value of serum Dickkopf-1, Dickkopf-3 level to coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndrome’. They demonstrated that the serum levels of Dickkopf-1 were significantly higher in the CHD group compared to the control group. This suggest that Dickkopf-1 may play a critical ro le in the pathogenesis of heart disease. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Commentary on the mitral regurgitation outcomes after transcatheter atrial septal defect closure
In this study, they aimed to elucidate mitral regurgitation (MR) outcomes and predictors of worsening MR after transcatheter atrial septal defect (ASD) closure. Based on the univariable and multiple logistic regression analysis, they found the associations between clinical or echocardiographic findings and worsening MR, and concluded that worsening MR after transcatheter ASD closure might depend on mitral valve (MV) leaflet findings and annulus size in patients with long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation. Decreased clinical performance in TGA-ASO patients after RVOT interventions; a multicenter European collaboration
In patients with transposition of the great arteries and an arterial switch operation (TGA-ASO) right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) obstruction is a common complication requiring one or more RVOT interventions. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Risk factors and outcomes of pericardial effusion in cancer patients receiving PD-1 inhibitors
Programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) inhibitors can induce various adverse reactions associated with immunity, of which cardiotoxicity is a serious complication. Limited research exists on the link between PD-1 inhibitor use and pericardial effusion (PE) occurrence and outcomes. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Multimodality imaging in arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy - From diagnosis to management
Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy (AC), an inherited cardiac disorder characterized by myocardial fibrofatty replacement, carries a significant risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD) due to ventricular arrhythmias. A comprehensive multimodality imaging approach, including echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), and cardiac computed tomography (CCT), allows for accurate diagnosis, effective risk stratification, vigilant monitoring, and appropriate intervention, leading to improved patient outcomes and the prevention of SCD. Pulsed-field ablation for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation: An indirect comparison of effectiveness among three proprietary devices conducted in the absence of randomized trials
In patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, pulsed-field ablation has been developed as an alternative to thermal ablation. Three devices are currently available: Farawave by Boston, PulseSelect by Medtronic, and Varipulse by Johnson. In the present report, we studied the outcomes at 12  months of these three devices using indirect comparisons. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

The computer is fantastic for our daily echocardiography practice
When comparing automatic measurement versus manual measurement in echocardiography, it is essential to weigh the pros and cons of each method. Since some clinicians used to practice for many years without any computer-based assistance, they could be reluctant. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

Iron supplementation is a residual piece of management in Asian patients with heart failure?
In the current issue of the International Journal of Cardiology, David et al. [0] are concerned that heart failure (HF) guidelines in Asia do not clearly address iron deficiency (ID) managements nor provide guidance on appropriate iron supplementation for Asians. Notably, the frequency of ID in Asian patients with HF is higher than that in the Europeans (Fig. 1A) [1 –12], and we sincerely congratulate the authors that have issued this expert recommendation. In the last decade, the usefulness of intravenous (IV) ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) or ferric derisomaltose (FDI), which has replaced saccharated ferric oxide, in pati...
