Rho 1 participates in parasitoid wasp eggs maturation and host cellular immunity inhibition
In conclusion, this study indicates that MmRho1 plays dual roles in wasp development and the suppression of the host insect cellular immune responses. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved (Source: Insect Science)

Prey life stages modulate effects of predation stress on prey lifespan, development, and reproduction in mites
This study indicated that the effects of predation stress are dependent on prey life stage and the predation stress experienced in the early life stages is important to lifespan modulation. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved (Source: Insect Science)

Functional evaluation of the insulin/insulin ‐like growth factor signaling pathway in determination of wing polyphenism in pea aphid
In this study, we found that pairing and solitary treatments can induce pea aphids to produce high and low percentage winged offspring, respectively. The expression level of ILP5 (insulin-like peptide 5) in maternal head was significantly higher upon solitary treatment in comparison with pairing, while silencing of ILP5 caused no obvious change in the winged offspring ratio. RNA interference-mediated knockdown ofFoxO (Forkhead transcription factor subgroup O) in stage 20 embryos significantly increased the winged offspring ratio. The results of pharmacological and quantitative polymerase chain reaction experiments showed t...

Cover Caption
An Early Cretaceous scene from the Dawangzhangzi plant assemblage in Northwestern China, showing arthropod and pathogen herbivory on a gymnosperm-dominated flora immediately before the global shift toward angiosperm-dominance. This scene displays a variety of external foliage feeding, oviposition, piercing and sucking, mining, galling, borings, and pathogens among plants and their arthropod and pathogen herbivores. The plant assemblage, part of the Yixian Flora, also exhibits evidence for pollination, mimicry, and parasitoidism, implying well-integrated trophic networks for this 125 million-year-old ecosystem (see pages 14...

BmCH25H, a vertebrate interferon ‐stimulated gene(ISG) homolog, inhibits BmNPV infection dependent on its hydroxylase activity in Bombyx mori
In this study, theBombyx mori CH25H (BmCH25H) gene, of which the encoded protein has high homology with other lepidopteran species, was identified and located on chromosome 9. Interestingly, we found that the expression ofBmCH25H was significantly upregulated inB.  mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) -infected BmN cells and silkworm (B.  mori) larvae at the early infection stage. The inhibitory effect of BmCH25H on BmNPV replication was further demonstrated to depend on its catalytic residues to convert cholesterol to 25HC. More importantly, we demonstrated that during BmNPV infection,BmCH25H expression was increased throu...
