Equal short-term outcomes of intracorporeal mechanical gastrogastrostomy in laparoscopic pylorus-preserving gastrectomy for cT1N0 gastric cancer in the middle stomach compared with the extracorporeal hand-sewing method
CONCLUSION: IMG is safe regarding ARCs compared with EHG. These results will encourage surgeons to introduce IMG for patients with early middle gastric cancer.PMID:38619559 | DOI:10.1007/s00464-024-10823-w (Source: Hand Surgery)

Take a shot! Natural language control of intelligent robotic X-ray systems in surgery
CONCLUSION: Voice interfaces offer a convenient, flexible way for surgeons to manipulate C-arms based on desired outcomes rather than device-specific processes. As LLMs grow increasingly capable, so too will their applications in supporting higher-level interactions with surgical assistance systems.PMID:38619790 | DOI:10.1007/s11548-024-03120-3 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Mid-term results of total elbow arthroplasties in the treatment of geriatric distal humerus fractures
DISCUSSION: TEA is an effective technique for treating comminuted distal humerus fractures in the geriatric population. The prosthesis's mid-term survivorship was highly satisfactory, with a complication rate that remained low and was generally lower than that of osteosynthesis, with identical functional outcomes. TEAs are indicated in elderly patients, for whom maintaining the fullest possible autonomy is paramount. Our findings suggest that TEAs have sufficient longevity to guarantee a functional, pain-free elbow with no need for reoperation.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: IV; case series.PMID:38615884 | DOI:10.1016/j.otsr.2024.10388...

CPAK classification detect the real knee joint apex position in less than half of the knees
CONCLUSION: The CPAK JLO measurement technique can be misleading in defining the KJLO apex position and the concordance between them is less than 50%. It has a high tendency to misleadingly predict proximal and neutral apex positions, which can potentially have negative implications for assessing the joint line.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level I.PMID:38613184 | DOI:10.1002/ksa.12175 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Advancements in De Quervain Tenosynovitis Management: A Comprehensive Network Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Corticosteroid injection with a short duration of immobilization remains the primary and effective treatment for De Quervain tenosynovitis. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy can be considered a secondary option. Alternative treatment modalities, such as isolated therapeutic injection, should be approached with caution because they did not show substantial benefits over placebo.TYPE OF STUDY/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic I.PMID:38613563 | DOI:10.1016/j.jhsa.2024.03.003 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Comparative analysis of surgical treatment modalities for a popliteal pterygium: a meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The management of PP demands a comprehensive approach, considering individual patient characteristics and treatment outcomes. While different surgical modalities offer distinct benefits, a classification or guideline to treat this deformity is still lacking. Further research is essential to validate findings, refine treatment approaches, and enhance the quality of life for individuals with PP.PMID:38613612 | DOI:10.1007/s00402-024-05292-8 (Source: Hand Surgery)

A guide to facilitate the creation of  a femoral tunnel for arthroscopic ligamentum teres reconstruction: a three-dimensional computed tomography study
J Hip Preserv Surg. 2023 Aug 19;11(1):13-19. doi: 10.1093/jhps/hnad027. eCollection 2024 Jan.ABSTRACTThe ideal femoral tunnel passing through the centre of the femoral neck targeted to the footprint of the ligamentum teres (LT) is established during the LT reconstruction surgery with the free-hand technique. We aimed to quantitatively determine the entry site and define the angular orientation of the ideal femoral tunnel with its relevance to the femoral valgus angle (FVA) and the femoral anteversion angle (FAA) to facilitate the creation of an ideal femoral tunnel during the LT reconstruction surgery. A total of 60 random...

What are the short- and long-term abdominal consequences of an omentectomy? A systematic review
J Surg Oncol. 2024 Apr 12. doi: 10.1002/jso.27640. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis review provides an overview regarding the abdominal effects of an omentectomy, with or without extra-peritoneal reconstructions. In general, reported complication rates were low. Short-term complications involved ileus, bowel stenosis, abdominal abscess and sepsis (range 0.0%-23%). Donor-site hernia was mainly reported as long-term complication (up to 32%) and negligible gastrointestinal complications were observed. However, the level of evidence and methodological quality are quite low with a maximum of 8.5 years follow-up.PMID:38606519 ...

Total ankle replacement versus ankle fusion for end-stage ankle arthritis: A meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Currently available evidence suggests no significant disparity in postoperative outcomes between TAR and AF. In the short term, TAR demonstrates better clinical scores than AF and lower complication rates. Conversely, in the long term, AF exhibits superior clinical scores and lower complication rates, although this difference is not statistically significant.PMID:38607239 | DOI:10.1177/10225536241244825 (Source: Hand Surgery)
