Hyperuricemia as an independent risk factor for achilles tendon rupture in male: a case-control study
CONCLUSION: Our study confirmed that, as in previous results, higher BMI, smoking, and total cholesterol are risk factors for ATR, Hyperuricemia may contribute to the development of ATR, and adjunctive tests for TC and UA in the blood biochemistry may be helpful in predicting the risk of ATR.PMID:38561771 | PMC:PMC10985911 | DOI:10.1186/s13018-024-04698-9 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Effect of adding short foot exercise to hip and knee focused exercises in treatment of patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome: a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Adding short foot exercise to hip and knee exercises improved pain, function, and mediolateral stability in patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome.TRIAL REGISTRATION: clinicaltrials.gov. Outcomes of Ulnar Shortening Osteotomy with an Intramedullary Bone Graft for Idiopathic Ulnar Impaction Syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: USO with an intramedullary bone graft for idiopathic UIS has favorable radiological and clinical outcomes. The advantage of this technique is the significant shortening of bone union time.PMID:38562625 | PMC:PMC10973609 | DOI:10.4055/cios23266 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Low Hand Grip Strength, Mid-Upper Arm Muscle Area, Calf Circumference, Serum Albumin Level, and Muscle Fiber Diameter as Risk Factors for Independent Walking Inability in Patients with Hip Fracture 6 Weeks after Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Low MUAMA, serum albumin levels, and muscle fiber diameter are direct risk factors for the inability to walk independently in hip fracture patients 6 weeks after bipolar hemiarthroplasty.PMID:38562634 | PMC:PMC10973617 | DOI:10.4055/cios23256 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Long-Term Outcomes of High-Flexion Design Total Knee Arthroplasty with a Short Posterior Flange
CONCLUSIONS: The Vega Knee System provided good clinical results in the long-term follow-up period. Although the VEGA Knee System showed acceptable implant survivorship, loosening of the femoral component occurred in about 3.4% of the patients. For more accurate evaluation of the survivorship of high-flexion design TKA with a short posterior flange, it is necessary to conduct more long-term follow-up studies targeting diverse races, especially Asians who frequently perform high-flexion activities.PMID:38562641 | PMC:PMC10973616 | DOI:10.4055/cios23133 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Midterm Comparative Analysis of Short Femoral Stem Survivorship in Dorr Type A Femurs
CONCLUSIONS: The SMF stem might be less reliable than previously reported, showing a high failure rate and increased radiologic complications. Thus, its use for THA in Dorr Type A femurs needs caution. On the other hand, the Metha stem showed comparable outcomes to the shortened tapered Tri-Lock BPS.PMID:38562642 | PMC:PMC10973610 | DOI:10.4055/cios23268 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Evaluating the accuracy and relevance of ChatGPT responses to frequently asked questions regarding total knee replacement
CONCLUSION: ChatGPT performed well in providing accurate and relevant responses to FAQs regarding TKR, demonstrating great potential as a tool for patient education. However, it is not infallible and can occasionally provide inaccurate medical information. Patients and clinicians intending to utilize this technology should be mindful of its limitations and ensure adequate supervision and verification of information provided.PMID:38566254 | DOI:10.1186/s43019-024-00218-5 (Source: Hand Surgery)
