100 anastomoses: a two-year single-center experience with robotic-assisted micro- and supermicrosurgery for lymphatic reconstruction
In conclusion, we show the successful implementation of the Symani® Surgical System into our clinical practice of lymphatic reconstruction. Although the necessary intraoperative setup and the use of intrinsic motion scaling lead to a slight increase in operating time, the presented study demonstrates the advantages of robotic assistance which becomes particularly evident in lymphatic surgery due to the involved deep surgical sites and the need for supermicrosurgical techniques.PMID:38581589 | DOI:10.1007/s11701-024-01937-3 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Complex dorsal metacarpophalangeal joint dislocation associated with proximal metacarpal fracture: case report and review of the literature
CONCLUSION: Complex dorsal metacarpophalangeal joint (MCPJ) dislocations are rare. Open reduction is typically necessary for optimal outcomes. Complications such as stiffness, osteoarthritis can arise, emphasizing the importance of accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.PMID:38581936 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijscr.2024.109532 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Influence of analytical procedures on miRNA expression analyses in saliva samples
J Craniomaxillofac Surg. 2024 Mar 18:S1010-5182(24)00114-8. doi: 10.1016/j.jcms.2024.03.030. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAim of this study was to demonstrate the influence of different analytical procedures and techniques on the resulting miRNA expression profile in healthy control subjects and tumor patients using the oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) model and to demonstrate the technical and biological reproducibility. Body fluids such as saliva are suitable for non-invasive miRNA analysis because ubiquitously circulating miRNA can be found in them. It was technically possible to distinguish between healthy and dise...

Hypoxia as a stimulus for tissue formation: The concept of organogenesis in microsurgically vascularized tissue engineering constructs
J Craniomaxillofac Surg. 2024 Mar 13:S1010-5182(24)00104-5. doi: 10.1016/j.jcms.2024.03.020. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAxial vascularization of tissue constructs is essential to maintain an adequate blood supply for a stable regeneration of a clinically relevant tissue size. The versatility of the arterio-venous loop (AVL) has been previously shown in various small and large animal models as well as in clinical reports for bone regeneration. We have previously demonstrated the capability of the AVL to induce axial vascularization and to support the nourishment of tissue constructs in small animal models after applying ...

Neglected volar Barton fracture in adult managed in a rural setting: a case report
CONCLUSION: Given the modest tissue shortening and young callus, such cases may be treated as conventional Barton's fractures and managed using conventional means of fixation with locking buttress plates. However, it makes sense to prepare for potential malreduction by carrying K wires and wrist distractions. To restore complete function to the injured wrist, adequate physiotherapy and postoperative splinting are essential components of postoperative rehabilitation.PMID:38576909 | PMC:PMC10990390 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001874 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Secondary neoplasm to non-hodgkin lymphoma treatment manifesting as a cancer of unknown primary: the first case in literature
CONCLUSION: This case suggests that cancer patients who received chemical or radiological treatment should be screened more carefully on the long term as it is possible to developed secondary neoplasms without a primary tumour in areas difficult to diagnose with traditional screening tools.PMID:38576933 | PMC:PMC10990406 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001881 (Source: Hand Surgery)

A 30-year-old female with dermatomyositis without high elevation of muscle enzymes: a rare case report from Syria
CONCLUSION: Even if test findings are not conclusive, dermatomyositis should always be considered when muscular weakness manifests. It's important to distinguish the disorder from connective tissue diseases like lupus erythematosus. In fact, to correctly diagnose DM, if there are any doubts, a muscle biopsy is required.PMID:38576947 | PMC:PMC10990297 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001682 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Chorea as the only presenting clinical feature of rheumatic fever: a case report
CONCLUSION: Any child presenting with a movement disorder should also be considered for SC, necessitating additional testing, including a cardiovascular assessment. It needs to be distinguished from other causes of movement disorders as well as psychiatric conditions. Treatment is necessary for moderate to severe chorea that interfere with daily activities. Compliance with subsequent antibiotic prophylaxis is essential for avoiding future cardiac complications.PMID:38576957 | PMC:PMC10990359 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001798 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Pseudoulnar palsy with concurrent wrist drop: case report
CONCLUSION: This case underscores the importance of considering the central causes of peripheral-like deficits, especially in older individuals with vascular risk factors, emphasizing the significance of early intervention in mitigating potential long-term consequences. This report contributes to the evolving understanding of central neurological presentations, and serves as a reminder of the need for a comprehensive diagnostic approach.PMID:38576987 | PMC:PMC10990295 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001879 (Source: Hand Surgery)

< em > Ex vivo < /em > liver resection and auto-transplantation and special systemic therapy in perihilar cholangiocarcinoma treatment
In conclusion, pCCA is still hard to treat due to late diagnosis and extremely complicated surgical options. ELRAT also brings some hope, but it could be performed in very carefully selected patients. Advanced disease requires systemic anticancer treatment, which is supposed to be individualized according to the genetic and molecular features of cancer cells. Targeted therapy in combination with chemo-immunotherapy could be effective in susceptible patients.PMID:38577079 | PMC:PMC10989340 | DOI:10.4240/wjgs.v16.i3.635 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Single Bone Intramedullary Fixation of the Radius in Pediatric Both Bone Forearm Fractures Using Straight Stainless Steel Kirschner Wire: A Cross-sectional Study on Radiological and Clinical Feature
CONCLUSION: In both bone forearm fractures in children, open reduction and internal fixation of only the radius with a stainless steel straight Kirschner wire could be a promising method with good results. This retrograde technique of intramedullary fixation is a simple and cost-effective method with minimal complications and acceptable outcomes in children aged 4-12 years.PMID:38577508 | PMC:PMC10989728 | DOI:10.22038/ABJS.2023.71219.3335 (Source: Hand Surgery)
