Incidence and risk factors for psychological distress in adult female patients with breast cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionThe incidence of PD in female patients with breast cancer is high and it involves 10 risk factors, though some are controversial owing to insufficient evidence. Further research is needed to explore the underlying mechanisms of PD and develop risk factor-based holistic intervention programs to reduce its incidence.Systematic review registrationThe protocol of this study has been registered in the database PROSPERO (registration ID: CRD42023433578). Examining a sentiment algorithm on session patient records in an eating disorder treatment setting: a preliminary study
Discussion/conclusionThe automated sentiment analysis performed worse in discerning sentiment from session patient records compared to human raters and cannot be used within practice in its current state if the benchmark is considered adequate enough. Nevertheless, the automated sentiment analysis does show potential in extracting sentiment from session records. The automated analysis should be further developed by including context-specific ED words, and a more solid benchmark, such as patients’ own mood, should be established to compare the performance of the automated analysis to. Causal associations between severe mental illness and sepsis: a Mendelian randomization study
ConclusionOur research revealed a suggestive association between genetically predicted major depression and an elevated risk of sepsis in individuals of European ancestry. This finding can serve as a reminder for clinicians to consider the possibility of subsequent infection and sepsis in depressive patients, which may help reduce the incidence of sepsis in individuals with depression. A network analysis of ICD-11 Complex PTSD, emotional processing, and dissociative experiences in the context of psychological trauma at different developmental stages
ConclusionIn this study, disturbance in self-organization symptoms was identified as the central psychopathologic symptom in individuals experiencing traumas at different developmental stages. It seems that adolescent trauma and not childhood trauma plays a more decisive role in the symptoms that a person manifests after traumatic experiences. Also, posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms and disturbance in self-organization symptoms were recognized in the cluster of emotional processing symptoms and can have substantial roles in prioritizing therapeutic measures. A theory of the neural mechanisms underlying negative cognitive bias in major depression
The widely acknowledged cognitive theory of depression, developed by Aaron Beck, focused on biased information processing that emphasizes the negative aspects of affective and conceptual information. Current attempts to discover the neurological mechanism underlying such cognitive and affective bias have successfully identified various brain regions associated with severally biased functions such as emotion, attention, rumination, and inhibition control. However, the neurobiological mechanisms of how individuals in depression develop this selective processing toward negative is still under question. This paper introduces a...

Assessing anxiety symptom severity in Rwandese adolescents: cross-gender measurement invariance of GAD-7
ConclusionThe GAD-7 can be used in cross-group comparison of generalized anxiety disorder prevalence, and we acknowledge that full scalar invariance is generally difficult to confirm, especially due to gender differences. We recommend that future studies further investigate populations living in rural areas and conduct trials that will focus on anxiety-specific treatment in Rwandan Clinical health care centers to determine the diagnostic accuracy of this screening tool. Sleep quality and associated factors among university students in Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis study
ConclusionThis study shows that there is a high prevalence of poor sleep quality among university students in Africa. Being stressed, in the second year, using electronic devices at bedtime, and having chronic illness were factors associated with poor sleep quality. Therefore, addressing contributing factors and implementing routine screenings are essential to reduce the burden of poor sleep quality.Systematic Review Registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/, identifier CRD42023493140. Long-term low-dose lamotrigine for paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia: a two-year investigation of cognitive function in children
ConclusionProlonged duration of untreated PKD in children may elevate the risk of ADHD comorbidity. Notably, following a 2-year lamotrigine regimen, enhancements were observed in both cognitive test outcomes and ADHD symptomatology. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)

COVID-19 restrictions promoted the newly occurring loneliness in older people – a prospective study in a memory clinic population
In conclusion, personal contacts and a close friendship network appear to be more decisive to prevent loneliness in older people than does the use of digital communication media. However, promoting an intensified use of digital communication media may be useful to counteract loneliness, especially in dementia patients. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)
