Long access heroin self-administration significantly alters gut microbiome composition and structure
DiscussionThese findings support the view that long access heroin self-administration significantly alters the structure of the gut microbiome by comparison to saline-yoked controls. Inferred metabolic pathway alterations suggest the development of a microbial imbalance favoring gut inflammation and energy expenditure. Potential microbial biomarkers and related functional pathways likely invoked by heroin self-administration could be targets for therapeutic intervention. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)

Treatment of patients with anorexia nervosa and comorbid post-traumatic stress disorder; where do we stand? A systematic scoping review
DiscussionThe findings of this review identify a dearth of treatment research on knowledge of concurrent trauma-focused treatments for patients with anorexia nervosa. Refraining patients with anorexia nervosa from trauma-focused treatment may not be warranted. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)

Mobile-based ecological momentary assessment and intervention: bibliometric analysis
ConclusionThis bibliometric study on mobile-based EMA and EMI is a valuable resource for understanding the field’s evolution and future trends. Our analysis indicates that EMA and EMI have great potential in health behaviors and mental health, but implementation should consider feasibility and reactivity issues carefully. Emerging trends include EMA-tailored EMI, JITAI, and digital phenotyping. In the future, strengthening multidisciplinary cooperation will be necessary to promote the continued development of the field. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)

“…in the middle of nowhere…” Access to, and quality of, services for autistic adults from parents’ perspectives: a qualitative study
DiscussionParents perceive themselves as investing a lot of effort and resources in getting some form of regular service and/or activity for their adult child. However, these parental efforts often fail, their child becoming inactive, and dependent on their presence. This suggests system-level problems with services for autistic adults in Hungary, with literature showing it is not specific to this country. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)

Relationship of autistic traits and the severity of fear of the COVID-19 pandemic in the general population
ConclusionPeople with higher autistic traits present greater fear of the COVID-19 pandemic. We suggest that it might be caused by cognitive stiffness and disorders in emotions regulation, according to the literature. The elderly also present higher levels of fear. The other variables did not affect the level of fear of the COVID-19 pandemic. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)

Genetic risk for hospitalization of African American patients with severe mental illness reveals HLA loci
ConclusionWe observed a strong association between H-SMI and a locus that has been consistently and strongly associated with SCZ in multiple studies (6p21.32-p22.1), possibly indicating an involvement of the immune system and the immune response in the development of severe transdiagnostic SMI. The effects of service dogs for children with autism spectrum disorder and their caregivers: a cross-sectional study
In conclusion, service dogs were found to positively impact sleep behaviors among children with autism, but may not uniformly relate to other areas of child and caregiver wellbeing. Prospective longitudinal designs, larger sample sizes able to detect small effects, and studies that measure sleep using objective methods are needed to build on these findings. Association between triglyceride glucose index (TyG) and psychotic symptoms in patients with first-episode drug-na ïve major depressive disorder
ConclusionsUnderstanding the non-linear link between the TyG index and the risk of psychotic symptoms in Chinese patients with FEDN MDD highlights the potential for targeted therapeutic approaches. By acknowledging the threshold effect observed, there is an opportunity to mitigate risk factors associated with IR-related psychiatric comorbidities through tailored interventions. These preliminary results stress the need for further longitudinal research to solidify these insights and contribute to more effective therapeutic strategies. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)

It isn ’t just Mom: Gendered provision of family and home responsibilities among emerging adults during COVID-19
Media and research reports have highlighted the disproportionate burden of home and family responsibilities shouldered by women and mothers due to COVID-19-related school/childcare shutdowns. This cross-sectional study extends this line of inquiry to emerging adults. Our study of 329 diverse emerging adults suggests that young women took on more home/family responsibilities than young men amidst the pandemic, and that these duties were associated with symptoms of depression. However, results also indicate that emerging adults who reported greater home/family responsibilities amidst the pandemic also experienced more qualit...

Glow up: does a professional photoshoot intervention affect self-esteem and emotions among adolescent psychiatric patients? —A longitudinal intervention study
ConclusionThe photo intervention had various gender-specific effects. Boys did benefit from the intervention in terms of longitudinal outcome on positive state emotions (PE) and SE, even positively influenced by SNS and SM. Thus, it might be concluded that online social comparison was processed more beneficial in boys. In contrast, when working with visual content in girls, psychopathology and coping must be considered. Internet consumption in general, especially SM and SNS, was related to low SE in girls. Nevertheless, when therapeutically accompanied, the “glow up moment” during the shoot (high on PE and SE; low on n...

Prevalence and associated factors of depression, anxiety and stress among clinical therapists in China in the context of early COVID-19 pandemic
ConclusionDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, depression, anxiety and stress were relatively common among clinical therapists in China. Regular physical activity and good sleep were important protective factors against emotional problems. Therefore, encouraging regular physical activity and actively addressing clinical therapists’ sleep problems is beneficial to improving the ability to cope with negative emotions. The COVID-19 epidemic significantly increased anxiety, and awareness and interventions should be recommended to reduce anxiety among clinical therapists during the COVID-19 pandemic.
