"Somewhere to turn to with my questions": A pre-post pilot of an information linker service for caregivers who have a child with a Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy
CONCLUSION: Our study shows that GenE Compass is feasible with the appropriate allocation of resources and highly acceptable to caregivers who have a child with a DEE.PMID:37832466 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejpn.2023.09.010 (Source: European Journal of Paediatric Neurology)

Analysis of the relation between cerebrospinal fluid antibody titers and clinical characteristics in pediatric patients with anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor encephalitis
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with symptoms of disturbance of consciousness may be severer. The severity in pediatric anti-NMDAR encephalitis patients was not correlated with anti-NMDAR antibody titers. Patients with high CSF antibody titers had a better prognosis after early PE therapy.PMID:37826915 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejpn.2023.10.001 (Source: European Journal of Paediatric Neurology)

Genetic testing in children enrolled in epilepsy surgery program. A real-life study
Eur J Paediatr Neurol. 2023 Oct 5;47:80-87. doi: 10.1016/j.ejpn.2023.09.009. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: Although genetic causes of drug-resistant focal epilepsy and selected focal malformations of cortical development (MCD) have been described, a limited number of studies comprehensively analysed genetic diagnoses in patients undergoing pre-surgical evaluation, their outcomes and the effect of genetic diagnosis on surgical strategy.METHODS: We analysed a prospective cohort of children enrolled in epilepsy surgery program over January 2018-July 2022. The majority of patients underwent germline and/or somatic g...

It's easier to relearn gross motor skills than learn them for the first time after injury: Empirical evidence informing the age at injury debate
Eur J Paediatr Neurol. 2023 Sep 12;47:67-71. doi: 10.1016/j.ejpn.2023.09.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe effect of age at injury on outcomes after brain injury has long been debated. Many have argued that the greater plasticity of the immature brain aids in its recovery from trauma, but others (notably Donald Hebb) have argued that early injury can impair the future ability of the brain to acquire new capabilities. This is difficult to assess empirically due to the presence of many age-dependent confounders. We performed Item Response Theory (IRT) analyses of two datasets of Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM) obser...
