Adolescent Onset of Localized Papillomatosis, Lymphedema, and Multiple Beta-Papillomavirus Infection: Epidermal Nevus, Segmental Lymphedema Praecox, or Verrucosis A Case Report and Case Series of Epidermal Nevi
Herein, we report the case of a 12-year-old female who noted the recent onset of an oval, circumscribed, 10-cm papillomatous plaque affecting the thigh and vulva that showed histologic signs of lymphedema without evidence of secondary lymphedema. The sequencing of genes associated with a delayed onset of lymphedema or epidermal nevi (EN) - GATA2 and GJC2, and HRAS and KRAS, respectively - showed wild-type alleles. Michel's Transport Medium as an Alternative to Liquid Nitrogen for PCR Analysis of Skin Biopsy Specimens
Formalin fixation and paraffin embedding are standard procedures for histopathological diagnosis and allow long-term archiving of tissue specimens. The cross-linking properties of formalin cause fragmentation of nucleic acids and reduce the sensitivity of PCR analysis. Michel's medium is a well-established transport medium used by dermatologists for biopsy transport to maintain tissue-fixed immunoreactants prior to direct immunofluorescence and immunoelectron microscopy. Staphylococcal Scalded Skin Syndrome in an Adult on Chemotherapy
Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome is a toxin-mediated, epidermolytic condition that uncommonly affects adults. A 51-year-old man receiving chemotherapy for leukemia presented with a large geographic erosion with superficial sloughing and multiple smaller lesions elsewhere. Biopsy revealed complete subcorneal splitting with multiple detached fragments of normal-appearing stratum corneum with fragments of attached acantholytic granular keratinocytes.
