Neutrophilic Dermatoses in Autoimmune Diseases: Report of Two Cases Associated with Autoimmune Thyroiditis
The term “neutrophilic dermatoses” includes a rare inflammatory pattern characterized by neutrophil-rich cutaneous infiltrate. Both innate and adaptive immune pathways may be involved in neutrophil recruitment. Occasionally, neutrophilic dermatoses may occur in association with autoimmune thyroiditis. Pa thogenetic aspects of this autoimmune disorder may elucidate their possible connection. Two exemplificative cases are taken as a pretext for a short review of this topic.Dermatopathology 2018;5:34 –37 (Source: Dermatopathology)

Sentinel Node Biopsy in Melanoma: A Short Update
Several controversies are still ongoing about sentinel node biopsy in melanoma. It is basically a staging procedure for melanoma #x3e; 0.75 mm in thickness or for thinner melanoma in the presence of ulceration, high mitotic rate, and/or lymphovascular invasion. Complete lymph node dissection after a positive sentinel node can also allow a better locoregional disease control but seems not to prevent the development of distant metastases. The use of sentinel node biopsy in atypical Spitz tumors should be discouraged because of their peculiar biological properties.Dermatopathology 2018;5:21 –25 (Source: Dermatopathology)

Obesity-Associated Lymphedematous Mucinosis: Two Further Cases and Review of the Literature
Cutaneous mucinoses are a group of conditions characterized by increased amounts of acid mucin in the dermis. They can be generalized or localized and occur isolated or in the setting of systemic diseases. Obesity-associated lymphedematous mucinosis is a distinct variant of mucinosis occurring in obese patients without any thyroid dysfunction. So far, only few cases of this rare condition have been reported in the English literature. Here, we describe two new cases and discuss some histological differences with the pretibial myxedema.Dermatopathology 2018;5:16 –20 (Source: Dermatopathology)

An 81-Year-Old Woman with Recalcitrant Blisters
Epidermolysis bullosa acquisita (EBA) is a rare mucocutaneous blistering disorder with typical onset in adulthood. Diagnosis and management can be difficult owing to the variability in presentation and clinical manifestation. In this case, we explore a case of EBA as well as provide a general overview of the condition and its variants.Dermatopathology 2018;5:1-5 (Source: Dermatopathology)

A 53-Year-Old Male with Relapsed Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma on Chemotherapy with a New Leg Lesion
Patients with underlying malignancy who develop new skin findings while acutely ill often require skin biopsy for histologic evaluation and/or culture to reach a diagnosis. Here, we present the case of a 53-year-old male with relapsed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma on chemotherapy who developed new skin lesions on the leg. On exam, there were 2 nickel-sized, erythematous to violaceous round plaques with central necrotic cores on the right lower leg with relatively nonspecific clinical features for which the initial differential diagnosis was broad. Consensus on a diagnosis was reached upon histologic evaluation of his skin ...

A 12-Month-Old Healthy Girl with a New Oral Ulcer and Chronic Diaper Rash
A 12-month-old healthy girl presented with a chronic diaper rash. Physical examination demonstrated crusting of the scalp, erythematous papules with surrounding petechiae on the lower abdomen, and an intraoral palatal ulcer. Further imaging demonstrated bone involvement. Histopathologic examination of involved skin and the intraoral ulcer demonstrated epithelioid histiocytes with “coffee bean-shaped” nuclei, staining positive for CD1a and langerin by immunohistochemistry, consistent with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). LCH is a disease entity of unknown etiology characterized by histiocytic proliferation that most...

A 71-Year-Old Female with Myocardial Infarction and Long-Standing Ulcers on the Thigh
Calciphylaxis is most commonly encountered in patients with end-stage renal disease; however, it is increasingly observed in nonuremic patients as well. It is important to consider and diagnose nonuremic calciphylaxis early, as prompt treatment and mitigation of associated risk factors is essential to improve long-term outcomes for these patients. Here, we present the case of a 71-year-old woman with atrial fibrillation on warfarin, but without renal disease, who presented with two long-standing ulcers on her thigh and was diagnosed with the aid of biopsy with calciphylaxis. We review the existing literature on the subject...

A 65-Year-Old Male with Primary Central Nervous System Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma on Nivolumab with Oral Mucositis and Targetoid Plaques
Conclusion: As PD-1 inhibitors become more widely used in the treatment of advanced malignancies, the early recognition and treatment of rare dermatologic toxicities remain of great importance.Dermatopathology 2017;4:13-17 (Source: Dermatopathology)

A 25-Year-Old Male with Orogenital Ulcers, Rash, and Difficulty Swallowing
A 25-year-old otherwise healthy male presented with new-onset odynophagia, rash, and orogenital ulcers. Despite treatment with antibiotics for presumed bacterial pharyngitis, the patient remained symptomatic, with abnormal vital signs and laboratory values. Upon dermatology consultation and histopathologic correlation, he was diagnosed with Beh çet disease. Behçet disease is a rare rheumatologic condition that presents with recurrent oral ulcers and varying degrees of ophthalmic, neurologic, cardiac, and vascular disease. Given its protean nature, the treatment of Behçet disease is tailored to the patient's presentation...
