Porokeratoma: A Possible Association with Human Papillomavirus Infection
Porokeratoma is a rare, relatively newly described and still unclear entity. Here, we describe the case of a 52-year-old male patient who presented with four well-defined, verrucous and hyperkeratotic lesions. Microscopically, one of the lesions showed acanthopapillomatosis overlying compact orthokeratosis. Prominent broad and confluent cornoid lamellae were present, with no granular layer and some dyskeratotic keratinocytes. PCR sequencing and in situ hybridization revealed the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 in the lesion. The association of porokeratoma and HPV infection has not previously been reported.D...

Cutaneous Myopericytoma: A Report of 3 Cases and Review of the Literature
Cutaneous myopericytoma is a rarely reported mesenchymal neoplasm with a benign biologic behavior. It is seen more commonly in males and typically occurs in adults on the distal extremities. To the best of our knowledge, there are only 13 reports describing 45 cases of cutaneous myopericytoma in the literature. The 3 cases in this report expand the clinical presentation and reinforce the histopathologic features of cutaneous myopericytoma. While the clinical presentation in 2 cases (located on the scalp and heel) was in keeping with that reported previously of a slow-growing painless firm nodule, the third case, located on...

Wong-Type Dermatomyositis Showing Porokeratosis-Like Changes (Columnar Dyskeratosis): A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Conclusion: Wong-type DM is a clinicopathologic DM-PRP hybrid that can also exhibit porokeratosis-like features best described as columnar dyskeratosis. Recognizing these types of lesions in DM is warranted in order to make an accurate assessment of their prognostic significance.Dermatopathology 2015;2:1-8 (Source: Dermatopathology)

Modulation of MCP-1, TGF-β1, and α-SMA Expressions in Granulation Tissue of Cutaneous Wounds Treated with Local Vitamin B Complex: An Experimental Study
Vitamin B complex can modulate the inflammatory response and activate wound healing. However, the action mechanisms involved in this process are still unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of vitamin B complex on the modulation of monocyte chemotactic protein (MCP)-1, transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1, and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) in granulation tissue growth. Cutaneous ulcers on Wistar rats were topically treated with vitamin B complex. MCP-1, TGF-β1, and α-SMA expressions were evaluated 24, 72, and 168 h after the treatment. Inflammatory cells were counted and collagen fibril staining was...

Cervicofacial Botryomycosis: Is Atopic Dermatitis a Predisposing Factor
Conclusions: We highlight the well-defined histologic features and recall an almost forgotten disease. We review common predisposing conditions and present evidence that atopic dermatitis might be an additional predisposing factor.Dermatopathology 2014;1:81-85 (Source: Dermatopathology)

Perineural Invasion in the Absence of Malignancy: Report of Two Cases and Review of the Literature
In this report, we describe 2 cases of perineural infiltration by benign-appearing epithelial cells in the skin. One case concerns a tumor-free reexcision specimen of a basal cell carcinoma and the other one an ulceration at the outer ear, consistent with acanthoma fissuratum, without a history of a previous excision. This finding was interpreted as a reactive process with dislocation of epithelium from the overlying epidermis into the perineural space.Dermatopathology 2014;1:86-90 (Source: Dermatopathology)

Necrotizing Infundibular Crystalline Folliculitis: A Case Report of an Exceptional Lesion of Unknown Etiology
Necrotizing infundibular crystalline folliculitis is a rare follicular lesion of which the etiology is not well understood. Here we describe the case of a 71-year-old male patient presenting with multiple hyperkeratotic lesions localized on the forehead. Histopathological analysis of one of the lesions revealed a follicular invagination containing cellular debris and keratin lamellae containing filamentous mucinous material and numerous crystals birefringent in polarized light microscopy.Dermatopathology 2014;1:3-6 (Source: Dermatopathology)

Cutaneous Angioneurofibroma: A New Histopathological Variant of Neurofibroma
Cutaneous neurofibromas are benign dermal tumors composed of spindle cells in a myxoid stroma containing numerous blood vessels. Here we describe 6 cases of solitary cutaneous neurofibroma showing unusually higher density of blood vessels in the stroma when compared to that of classical neurofibromas. We propose this lesion to be a new histopathological variant of neurofibroma and name it angioneurofibroma.Dermatopathology 2014;1:7-10 (Source: Dermatopathology)

Trauma-Induced Cutaneous Focal Mucinosis of the Mammary Areola: An Unusual Presentation
We report 2 male patients with trauma-induced CFM arising at the mammary areola, which is an unusual site for CFM. Both male patients presented with a solitary nodular lesion of up to 2 cm in diameter at the right areola. Histology was characterized by circumscribed abundant dermal mucin deposits in a polylobulated pattern without an increased number of fibroblasts or capillaries and with absence of an inflammatory infiltrate. Alcian blue stain at pH 2.5 highlighted the mucin deposits. Immunohistochemistry showed partial expression of FXIIIa by 30% of the stromal cells, but no reactivity for CD34, smooth muscle actin, desm...

A Case of a Cellular Neurothekeoma Presenting with Headaches and Review of the Literature
A 12-year-old female presented with a 1-year history of a slow-growing lesion on the frontal scalp. The patient reported intermittent headaches increasing in frequency localized under the lesion. Physical exam revealed a firm, fixed, 5-mm orange-pink papule on the right frontal scalp. Excisional biopsy was performed using a 6-mm punch biopsy, after which the patient reported a cessation of headaches. Histopathology showed a diffuse proliferation of spindled and epithelioid cells within the superficial and deep reticular dermis demonstrating a nested as well as fascicular growth pattern. There was also focal myxoid dermal c...

Nodular Mucinosis of the Breast in a Male: Reassessment of Diagnostic Criteria and Proposal for Its Classification as a Soft Tissue Tumor in the Myofibroblastoma and Spindle Cell Lipoma Spectrum
We present a case of NMB occurring in the nipple of a 46-year-old man and analyze the clinicopathological features of the other cases of NMB reported in the English literature, concluding that two of them most likely correspond to trauma-induced cutaneous focal mucinosis of the mammary areola. Finally, we review diagnostic criteria for NMB and elaborate an ontogenetic hypothesis based on both its morphological resemblance to myofibroblastoma and its immunohistochemical profile.Dermatopathology 2014;1:47-54 (Source: Dermatopathology)
