Behavioural and physiological responses of juvenile geoduck (Panopea zelandica) following acute thermal stress
This study focused on characterising animal behaviour, haemocyte characteristics, and heat shock protein (HSP70 & HSP90) mRNA expression following exposure to elevated temperatures, such as those encountered during marine heatwaves around 20 °C and an extreme scenario of 25 °C, contrasted to an ambient temperature of 17 °C. After 24 h of heat challenge, P. zelandica were found to be significantly influenced by the thermal changes, as there were differences recorded in all the responses examined. With increasing temperatures, juvenile geoducks were observed to fully emerge from the sediment a behaviour that has not p...

Sequence identification and expression characterization of leptin in the spotted scat, Scatophagus argus
Comp Biochem Physiol B Biochem Mol Biol. 2023 Aug 8:110882. doi: 10.1016/j.cbpb.2023.110882. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTScatophagus argus is an important marine culture fish in South and South-East Asia, including Southeast coastal areas of China. Artificial propagation technology for S. argus is not optimum; thus further studies on its reproduction biology are required. Although previous studies have shown that leptin (Lep) can regulate fish reproduction, the role of lep genes in S. argus is unknown. Herein, in silico analysis showed that S. argus has two lep genes (lepa and lepb). Protein 3D-structure prediction showe...

A kinetic characterization of the gill V(H < sup > + < /sup > )-ATPase from two hololimnetic populations of the Amazon River shrimp Macrobrachium amazonicum
Comp Biochem Physiol B Biochem Mol Biol. 2023 Jul 28;268:110880. doi: 10.1016/j.cbpb.2023.110880. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis investigation examines the kinetic characteristics and effect of acclimation to a brackish medium (21 ‰S) on gill V(H+)-ATPase activity in two hololimnetic populations of M. amazonicum. We also investigate the cellular immunolocalization of the enzyme. Immunofluorescence findings demonstrate that the V(H+)-ATPase c-subunit is distributed in the apical pillar cells of shrimps in fresh water but is absent after acclimation to 21 ‰S for 10 days. V(H+)-ATPase activity from the Tietê River po...
