Dendritic polymer prodrug-based unimolecular micelles for pH-responsive co-delivery of doxorubicin and camptothecin with synergistic controlled drug release effect
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2024 Apr 11;238:113906. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2024.113906. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCombination chemotherapy has been recognized as a more powerful strategy for tumor treatment rather than the single chemotherapy. However, the interactive mechanism of the two hydrophobic chemotherapeutic drugs has not been explored by now. Aiming for a better synergistic effect, such interactive mechanism was investigated in the present work, by designing CPT@DOX-DPUTEA-PEG nanomedicine with encapsulated camptothecin (CPT) and conjugated doxorubicin (DOX). The synergistic controlled drug release effect...

Development of a precision tumor bone metastasis model by a magnetic micro-living-motor system
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2024 Mar 27;238:113877. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2024.113877. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn ideal bone metastasis animal model is critical and fundamental for mechanistic research and following development of new drug and treatment. Caudal artery (CA) injection allows bone metastasis in the hindlimb, while in-depth targeted and quantitative studies of bone metastasis require a new model to overcome its limitations. Here, we developed a targeted, quantitative, and highly consistent method for the modeling of bone metastasis with cell-based magnetic micro-living-motor (MLM) system created by ...

Insight into the structural characteristics of self-assembled liposome with epigallocatechin gallate/alcohol dehydrogenase
In this study, the encapsulation and structural characteristics of the self-assembled liposome formed by epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) were studied. According to the results, EGCG significantly increased the catalytic activity of ADH with a 33.33 % activation rate and the liposomes were able to entrap EGCG-ADH with an effectiveness of 88.94 %. The self-assembled monolayers had nanometer-sized particles, and the excellent self-assembled system was demonstrated by the low PDI value and high surface absolute potential. The scanning electron microscope showed that the self-assembled liposome w...

Bioinspired zwitterionic triblock copolymers designed for colloidal drug delivery: 2 - Biological evaluation
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2024 Apr 1;238:113886. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2024.113886. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this work, poly(lactide) nanoparticles were equipped with a bioinspired coating layer based on poly[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl phosphorylcholine] and then evaluated when administered to the lungs and after intravenous injection. Compared to the plain counterparts, the chosen zwitterionic polymer shell prevented the coated colloidal formulation from aggregation and conditioned it for lower cytotoxicity, protein adsorption, complement activation and phagocytic cell uptake. Consequently, no interference wi...

Is lactic acid a misunderstood trigger of gout attack for a century?
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2024 Apr 10;238:113913. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2024.113913. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA gout attack could be viewed as a nucleation event. Many reports have shown that the typical molecular structure of crystallization inhibitors usually contains carboxyl and hydroxyl groups, which could interact with solute molecules through hydrogen bonding, thereby suppressing the nucleation and growth of crystals. Since 1923, l-lactic acid (LA), a molecule with structural features of inhibitors, has been speculated to be a trigger for acute gout because metabolized LA temporarily reduces uric acid ex...

Quercetin-derived red emission carbon dots: A multifunctional theranostic nano-agent against Alzheimer's β-amyloid fibrillogenesis
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2024 Apr 9;238:113907. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2024.113907. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMultifunctional agents with therapeutic and diagnostic capabilities are imperative to the prevention of Alzheimer's disease (AD), which is considered due to abnormal aggregation and deposition of β-amyloid protein (Aβ) as well as oxidative stress. Herein, quercetin (Que)- and p-phenylenediamine (p-PD)-derived red emission carbon dots (CDs) synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal method were designed as a novel theranostic nano-agent for the multi-target treatment of AD. R-CD-75 with an optimized compos...

Synthesis and characterization of antimicrobial colloidal polyanilines
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2024 Apr 10;238:113912. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2024.113912. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe potential application of colloidal polyaniline (PANI) as an antimicrobial is limited by challenges related to solubility in common organic solvents, scalability, and antimicrobial potency. To address these limitations, we introduced a functionalized PANI (fPANI) with carboxyl groups through the polymerisation of aniline and 3-aminobenzoic acid in a 1:1 molar ratio. fPANI is more soluble than PANI which was determined using a qualitative study. We further enhanced the solubility and antimicrobial act...

Chitosan lecithin nanocomposite based electrochemical biosensor for glycine detection in biological matrices
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2024 Apr 10;238:113901. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2024.113901. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIncreased glycine concentrations are associated with altered metabolism of cancer cells and is reflected in the bodily fluids of the brain cancer patients. Various studies have been conducted in past to detect glycine as an imaging biomarker via NMR Spectroscopy tools. However, the use is limited because of the low concentration and different in vivo detection due to overlapping of peaks with myo-inositol in same spectral position. Alongside, little is known about the electrochemical potential of Glycin...
