Divergent perspectives: exploring the relationships between St. George ’s Respiratory Questionnaire and outcome measures in systemic sclerosis–associated interstitial lung disease
ConclusionsOur study reveals varying degrees of correlation between SGRQ and distinct outcome measures. Given the incomplete alignment of SGRQ with other outcome measures, an integrative approach utilizing existing criteria as complementary tools is recommended.Key Points•Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) derive from patients ’ subjective evaluations of the impact of the disease on their daily activities, social interactions, and psychological well-being.•PROMs frequently serve as outcome measures in randomized controlled trials, yet conflicting findings have emerged in relation to primary outcomes.•This st...

Non-invasive imaging for predicting labial salivary gland biopsy outcomes in patients with suspected primary Sj ögren syndrome
AbstractTo identify the value of salivary gland ultrasound (SGUS) combined with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance sialography (MRS) in predicting the results of labial salivary gland biopsy (LSGB) in patients with suspected primary Sj ögren syndrome (pSS), and construct a nomogram model to predict LSGB results. A total of 181 patients who were admitted with suspected pSS from December 2018 to April 2023 were examined and divided into a training set (n = 120) and a validation set (n = 61). Baseline data of the two groups were examined, and the value of SGUS, MRI, and MRS in predicting LSGB was...

Frequency and the effects of spondyloarthritis-spectrum disorders on the clinical course and management of Takayasu arteritis: an observational retrospective study
ConclusionOur study confirmed that diseases in the SpA spectrum are not rare in TAK. Vascular symptoms appeared earlier in such patients, and more aggressive therapy with biological agents was required in the TAK-SpA group, suggesting an association between TAK and SpA spectrum.Key Points• The pathogenesis of Takayasu arteritis is mediated by an MHC class I alelle (HLA-B*52), similar to spondyloarthritis-disorders.• Extravascular findings of Takayasu arteritis are in the spectrum of spondyloarthritis disease.• This frequent coexistence between Takayasu arteritis and spondyloarthritic disorders suggests a relationship...

A predictive model for premature atherosclerosis in systemic lupus erythematosus based on clinical characteristics
ConclusionsThe comprehensive nomogram constructed in this study serves as a useful and convenient tool for evaluating the risk of premature atherosclerosis in SLE patients. It is helpful for clinicians to early identify SLE patients with premature atherosclerosis and facilitates the implementation of more effective preventive measures.Key Points•SLE patients are at a significantly higher risk of developing premature atherosclerosis compared to the general population, and this risk persists even in cases with low disease activity. Traditional models used to evaluate and predict premature atherosclerosis in SLE patients of...

Gardening/yardwork in people with knee osteoarthritis is not associated with symptom or structural progression over 48  months: data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative
ConclusionGardening/yardwork is not associated with knee OA progression and should not be discouraged in those with knee OA.Key Points•Gardening/yardwork is not associated with knee OA symptomatic or structural progression.•Gardening/yardwork should not be discouraged in people with knee OA. ANCA-associated vasculitis presenting with isolated neurological manifestations in a patient with cocaine abuse: a case report and literature review
We present a unique case of AAV with isolated neurological manifestations presenting with multiple cranial neuropathies, leptomeningeal enhancement on imaging and histopathologic evidence of small-vessel vasculitis in the leptomeninges and brain and extensive dural fibrosis in a patient with cocaine abuse. The patient ’s progressive neurological deficits were controlled after starting immunosuppression with rituximab and prednisone. We also reviewed the literature to provide the diagnostic overview of AAV and evaluate intervention options. To our knowledge, this is the first case of AAV with isolated neurologic al manife...

Increased inferior vena cava wall thickness as a sign of extensive venous inflammation in Beh çet’s Disease
ConclusionThis study shows that venous wall inflammation is not limited to lower extremity veins and is also present in IVC walls of BD patients regardless of IVC involvement. Vascular wall inflammation is probably a widespread vascular event of all venous walls in BD.Key Points• Venous wall inflammation is not limited to lower extremity veins and is present also in IVC wall in Behçet’s disease.• Extensive venous wall inflammation in Behçet’s disease includes large venous structures despite not being clinically involved. Evaluation of Type 2 SLE symptoms in patients with a range of lupus nephritis activity
ConclusionsWhile Type 2 SLE symptoms are common in SLE, our findings suggest that patients with active nephritis experience significant Type 2 SLE symptoms that may be ameliorated as nephritis improves. We also observed that non-nephritis patients had a similar burden of Type 2 SLE symptoms as patients with active nephritis, despite having on average lower Type 1 SLE activity. Therefore, the etiology of Type 2 SLE symptoms is likely multifactorial and may be driven by inflammatory and non-inflammatory biopsychosocial factors.Key Points• Patients with active nephritis experienced significant Type 2 symptoms that may be am...

Association of congestive heart failure with mortality in individuals with rheumatoid arthritis: a cohort study
ConclusionsIn this cohort study of US adults with RA, CHF was significantly associated with an increased risk of all-cause or CVD-related death. This finding underscores the importance of CHF in the management of patients with RA and may provide future information on maintaining the health status of patients with RA.Key messages•The study findings demonstrate a significant increase in overall mortality and cardiovascular mortality among individuals with RA who develop CHF.•This knowledge can assist healthcare professionals in identifying high-risk patients who could benefit from targeted monitoring and early interventi...

Identification and verification of inflammatory biomarkers for primary Sj ögren’s syndrome
ConclusionFour inflammation-associated biomarkers (LY6E, EIF2AK2, IL15, and CXCL10) were explored, and the underlying regulatory mechanisms and targeted drugs associated with these biomarkers were preliminarily investigated according to a series of bioinformatics methods based on the online datasets of pSS, which provided a reference for understanding the pathogenesis of pSS.Key Points•Inflammation-associated biomarkers (LY6E, EIF2AK2, IL15, and CXCL10) were firstly identified in Sj ögren’s syndrome based on LASSO and SVM-RFE analyses.•CXCL10, EIF2AK2 and LY6E were prominently positively correlated with immature B c...
