Addictions treatment mechanisms of change science and implementation science: A critical review
Alcohol Clin Exp Res. 2023 Mar 13. doi: 10.1111/acer.15053. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis manuscript aims to contribute to the next phase of mechanisms of behavior change (MOBC) science on alcohol or other drug use (AOD). Specifically, we encourage transition from a basic science orientation (i.e., knowledge generation) to a translational science orientation (i.e., knowledge application or Translational MOBC Science). To inform that transition, we examine MOBC science and implementation science and consider how these two research areas can intersect to capitalize on the goals, strengths, and key methodologies of each....

Disrupted dynamic functional network connectivity in fetal alcohol spectrum disorders
CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate important resting-state dFNC differences exist in children with FASD. Participants with FASD exhibited increased dynamic fluidity and dynamic range and spent more time in states typified by anticorrelation within and between DMN and VN, and more time in a state typified by high internetwork connectivity. These network aberrations taken together would indicate prenatal alcohol exposure is having a global effect on resting-state connectivity.PMID:36880528 | DOI:10.1111/acer.15046 (Source: Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research)

Daily impulsivity and alcohol expectancies: A multilevel examination of the acquired preparedness model
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study to test the APM at the day level. Findings supported daily fluctuations in beliefs regarding the positive effects of alcohol as a salient mechanism explaining the link between daily impulsivity and level of alcohol use. Because impulsivity was linked to changes in expectancy states that were proximal to drinking that day, this information may be used to develop prevention and intervention programs to reduce alcohol harms.PMID:36877150 | DOI:10.1111/acer.15023 (Source: Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research)

Age as a moderator of motivational interviewing and nondirective client-centered psychotherapy for alcohol use disorder: An exploratory study
CONCLUSION: Findings underscore the importance of understanding the impact of age on treatment effectiveness, as providing a nondirective intervention for OA with AUD could provide suboptimal treatment. Further research is needed to explore these differential effects.PMID:36871206 | DOI:10.1111/acer.15015 (Source: Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research)
