Neural oscillations in the ventral striatum reveal differences between the encoding of palatable food and ethanol consumption
CONCLUSIONS: The success of models classifying EtOH or SF consumption versus all other behavior/naturalistic controls, in juxtaposition to the poor performance of generalized models, suggest that the neural activity reflected in ventral striatal oscillations is distinct between EtOH and SF consumption.PMID:37166071 | DOI:10.1111/acer.15101 (Source: Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research)

Lived experiences of the diagnostic assessment process for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder: A systematic review of qualitative evidence
Alcohol Clin Exp Res. 2023 May 2. doi: 10.1111/acer.15097. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEarly assessment for and diagnosis of FASD are crucial in providing therapeutic interventions that aim to enhance meaningful participation and quality of life for individuals and their families, while reducing psychosocial difficulties that may arise during adolescence and adulthood. Individuals with lived experience of FASD hold expertise on their own lives and family needs, and their insights on the assessment and diagnostic process are valuable to improving service delivery and informing the provision of meaningful, person- and fami...

Delayed cortical thinning in children and adolescents with prenatal alcohol exposure
CONCLUSIONS: Regional differences were seen longitudinally in the trajectory and timing of CT change in children with PAE, suggesting delayed cortical maturation and an atypical pattern of development compared with typically developing individuals. In addition, exploratory correlation analyses of SPC and EF performance suggest the presence of atypical brain-behavior relationships in PAE. The findings highlight the potential role of altered developmental timing of cortical maturation in contributing to long-term functional impairment in PAE.PMID:37132064 | DOI:10.1111/acer.15096 (Source: Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research)
