A characterization of pre- to post-immigration alcohol use among recent Latino immigrants to the United States before and during the COVID-19 pandemic
CONCLUSIONS: The noted decrease in alcohol use since immigration may reflect the unique array of support and resources available to RLIs in MDC. Nevertheless, some RLIs increased their alcohol use over time, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. This disparate impact of the pandemic on alcohol use calls attention to the need to identify the most vulnerable RLIs to MDC and develop targeted interventions for them.PMID:36820792 | DOI:10.1111/acer.14993 (Source: Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research)

Greater resistance to footshock punishment in female C57BL/6J mice responding for ethanol
CONCLUSIONS: Females continue to respond for 10% ethanol despite a 0.35 mA footshock, and this behavior is not due to differences in footshock sensitivity between males and females. These results show that female C57BL/6J mice are generally more resistant to punishment in an operant self-administration paradigm. The findings add to the literature characterizing aversion-resistant alcohol-drinking behaviors in females.PMID:36822578 | DOI:10.1111/acer.15039 (Source: Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research)

Inhibitory control in young adult women with fetal alcohol syndrome: Findings from a pilot functional magnetic resonance  imaging study
CONCLUSIONS: The known alterations of inhibitory functions associated with prenatal alcohol exposure in children and adolescents were not seen in this adult sample. However, differential brain activity was observed, reflecting potential compensatory mechanisms. Secondary results suggest that there is impaired attentional control in young adult women with FAS.PMID:36807201 | DOI:10.1111/acer.15025 (Source: Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research)

Validation of the FASD-Tree as a screening tool for fetal alcohol spectrum disorders
CONCLUSION: The FASD-Tree is not a biomarker of PAE and does not provide definitive evidence of prenatal alcohol exposure. Rather it is an accurate and valid screening tool for FASD and can be used by clinicians who suspect that a patient has a history of PAE, even if the exposure is unknown.PMID:36807293 | DOI:10.1111/acer.14987 (Source: Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research)

Parental divorce, discord, and polygenic risk on children's alcohol initiation and lifetime risk for disorder
CONCLUSIONS: Children's genetic risk for alcohol problems modifies the impact of parental divorce/discord, consistent with an additive model of diathesis-stress interaction, with some differences across ancestry.PMID:36807915 | DOI:10.1111/acer.15042 (Source: Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research)

A randomized controlled clinical trial of prazosin for alcohol use disorder in active duty soldiers: Predictive effects of elevated cardiovascular parameters
CONCLUSIONS: These results extend reports that higher pretreatment cardiovascular measures predict beneficial effects of prazosin, which may be useful for relapse prevention in patients with AUD.PMID:36809662 | DOI:10.1111/acer.14989 (Source: Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research)
