Fight Aging! Newsletter, July 4th 2022
This study showed that centenarians had very specific changes in CD4+ T cell populations, which were manifested by an elevated Th17/Treg ratio in vivo, as well as a changed secretory phenotype. Although the T cells of centenarians cannot resist the aging-related expression of proinflammatory genes, their secretory phenotype was altered, explaining the relatively low level of inflammation in centenarians. These results suggested the presence of a mechanism to ameliorate inflammaging in centenarians. This may be achieved by reversing the imbalance of Th17/Treg cells and reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines. Longevit...

Longevity Conferences Coming up in Late 2022
Conferences are a measure of the health of a field; typically the more conferences one sees, the broader the efforts and the larger the funding. The effect of immigrants on wages issmall and to the benefit of complementary native ‐born American workers. Immigrants are lesscriminallyinclined than native ‐born Americans. Immigrants and their descendantsassimilate quickly into American culture. The threat ofterrorist attacks carried about by foreigners on U.S. soil is real but also small and manageable. But one argument stands out to the point where I ’veco ‐authored...

Cinahl strategy for finding studies from the UK
This is based on the Medline filter in Ayiku, L.et al.(2017) ‘The Medline UK filter: development and validation of a geographic search filter to retrieve research about the UK from OVID Medline’,Health Information and Libraries Journal 34(3), pp.200-216.  That filter isdiscussed in another post.I have tested it to see if it results in error messages (it does not) but it is not yet validated.  The Medline filter it is based on has been validated - see the article referenced above for details. This Cinahl filter does not specify fields, so searches all fields.  In line S4, gb with no punctuation and g.b. wi...

Shewanted to create“a school where children of all ages, ethnicities, and beliefs could learn and grow in an unhurried, relaxed atmosphere; where enrollment would be limited so that the children, staff, and parents would all get to know on...

Social Robots: Are Robotic Pets Any Worse Than The Real Ones?
Social companion robots are getting increasingly popular, more widely used and accepted. This might have happened anyway, but the pandemic accelerated the pace of their “deployment”.  Not so surprising, many social workers have experienced that COVID restrictions took a huge toll on elderly people living alone. The loneliness of the ageing population is a known phenomenon. A vast amount of research has found that a significant percentage of people above 65 are living alone, and many of them feel lonely and isolated. Also well proven is the fact that loneliness alone is a health risk. Elevated cortisol levels, t...
