FDA releases hurricane disaster medical device safety guidelines
In the wake of multiple hurricanes making landfall in the US, the FDA released guidelines for maintaining medical device safety in natural disasters, warning of issues with fluctuating power, unusual levels of water, humidity and contaminants.
The federal watchdog instructed users of medical devices to first and foremost keep the devices clean and dry and to avoid using devices that appear damaged, with special care for any electronics that have gotten wet or been damaged by water.
For devices reliant on water, the FDA laid out specific guidelines to avoid issues with contamination.

High burden of iodine deficiency found in Israel's first national survey
(The Hebrew University of Jerusalem) The first national iodine survey conducted in Israel has revealed a high burden of iodine deficiency among Israelis, posing a high risk of maternal and fetal hypothyroidism and impaired neurological development of the fetus in Israel. A routine medical picked up blood in my urine which culminated in an ultrasound and a cystoscopy which resulted in Frieda the fibroid being found. The medical team said it could be that I would make it to menopause and Frieda would begin to shrink, at this stage she was around 5cm.
