Efficient, stable solar cells by using inherent bandgap of {alpha}-phase formamidinium lead iodide
In general, mixed cations and anions containing formamidinium (FA), methylammonium (MA), caesium, iodine, and bromine ions are used to stabilize the black α-phase of the FA-based lead triiodide (FAPbI3) in perovskite solar cells. However, additives such as MA, caesium, and bromine widen its bandgap and reduce the thermal stability. We stabilized the α-FAPbI3 phase by doping with methylenediammonium dichloride (MDACl2) and achieved a certified short-circuit current density of between 26.1 and 26.7 milliamperes per square centimeter. With certified power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 23.7%, more than 90% of t...

Iodine supplementation in pregnancy – international recommendations and the evidence base
This 60 minute webinar, by Dr Sarah Bath from the University of Surrey, will cover the role of iodine supplements, rather than diet, in meeting recommendations during pregnancy. It is well known that adequate iodine intake is essential in pregnancy for correct brain development, but the role of iodine supplements is less clear. In some countries there are official recommendations for women to take iodine-containing supplements during pregnancy, but that is not the case in many countries (including in the UK). The webinar will cover the variation in international policies on iodine supplementation and will review the curren...

California ’s Recent Earthquakes Are Reigniting Fears of the ‘Big One’
(RIDGECREST, Calif.) — Shaken residents were cleaning up Sunday from two of the biggest earthquakes to rattle California in decades as scientists warn that both should serve as a wake-up call to be ready when the long-dreaded “Big One” strikes. California is spending more than $16 million to install thousands of quake-detecting sensors statewide that officials say will give utilities and trains precious seconds to shut down before the shaking starts. Gov. Gavin Newsom said it’s time residents did their part by mapping out emergency escape routes and preparing earthquake kits with food, water, lights...
